Chuck Noll.

Managing a business or even a sports team can be very difficult. Former Pittsburg Steelers’ head coach Chuck Noll has some very good advice about successful management techniques to the workplace. In his speech he explains what he did to manage his football team in good order, as well as what people should do to mange their things. Coach Noll infers that successful management techniques to the workplace are key for a business or even a sports team to be successful.

When managing a sports team, Coach Noll has some very good and important advice to doing it correctly. For example, he says that as a coach, singling out a player to the media or even to the team is bad for the team’s chemistry. Noll once singled out a player in public and for the rest of that season, that player was booed for every bad thing he did. In addition to not singling out a player for something they do wrong, treating all the players the same is important too. For instance, one night the Steelers’ star player Joe Greene missed the team curfew by 5 minutes. Noll had mixed emotions on whether to penalize the player the normal fifty dollars or just let him be and Noll did what was right. He fined Greene the fifty dollars, which Greene payed without argument, and the team’s chemistry remained the same. As well as keeping the team’s punishment fair even if the star player needs to be penalized is essential, working together is probably the most important part of a team. Noll said that in order for the team to be successful, they needed to work together on and off the field. New plays and plans for the teams needed to be evaluated perfectly by the team on the field. Also, fooling around both on and off the field were not tolerated, especially by good leaders like Jack Lambert, and Joe Greene who had zero tolerance for fooling around. Hence, when managing a sports team or even a social group working together to achieve a common goal, Coach Chuck Noll gave some great advice in his speech.

Managing a business and a sports team are not that different but managing a business can be a little harder. For instance, being the leader of a business making ideas and trying to execute them can be very hard. The worst that the leader can say to their business is that “My idea must work” and keep on forcing to execute it perfectly. However this will not work and this may even lead to becoming fired or not meeting the deadline for the idea. As well as being calm and accepting that the idea might not work, leaders of businesses have to just get their job done. Leaders cannot take pride in their authorship of the idea they express. Their main job is to express the idea thoroughly and execute it perfectly and not taking authorship in their idea but to just get the job done. In addition to not taking authorship in their ideas but just getting the job done, consistency is probably the most important thing for businesses. Keeping everyone on the same page and working together is a real challenge for leaders of businesses. Consistency is very important because it does not matter what the business accomplished in the past, but what they accomplish now and will keep on doing. Thus, managing a business is very much like managing a sports team but can be very difficult as well.

Successful management techniques of a sports teams, businesses or groups trying to achieve the same goal are explained thoroughly by former Pittsburg Steelers’ head coach Chuck Noll. When managing a sports team, the coach cannot single out a player or give any player treatment better than the other players. Also fooling around on and off the field cannot be tolerated and all of these will bring down the team’s chemistry and they will not perform to their best. Managing a business can be as hard or harder than being the coach of a sports team. Leaders’ of businesses have to keep consistency on their mind while keeping everyone on the same page. Also, leaders of businesses cannot take pride in the authorship of their idea without executing it perfectly, and they cannot force their business to accept their idea even if it cannot work. Coach Chuck Noll was a great coach for the Pittsburg Steelers and has given some great advice for managing a business to a sports team.
