I often have this urges from time to time. I just feel the need to de-clutter the home. Today, I felt like de-cluttering my space at the office. At my workplace, we do not have assigned seats since we are considered roaming sales personnel. Most of the time, we are not in the office anyway. But it did not mean that I don’t have any mess there. I definitely do. And I’m going to get rid of it.

Even though, we do not have assigned seats, we tend to sit at the same places. Spaces under the tables are often used to chuck used and unused papers, brochures, application forms and other miscellaneous materials. Besides that, I have my locker to clear up. There were times when the admin personnel told me that she could not get anything into my locker because it was filled to the brim. I felt so guilty. So, I’m clearing these two spaces.

1) Get Rid of Paper
My work involves a lot of paperwork – notes from meetings and trainings, brochures, forms, files and stuff are a common product of our work. We also get magazines and prospectus to read. This is what I have done.

I threw away old prospectus and application forms. I returned the brochures into the pigeon holes and segregated all my meeting and training notes. I kept the magazines and brought them home.

I’m left a stack of leads, some birthday cards, two boxes of namecards in my locker. My locker is now relatively empty and the admin personnel should have no problems stuffing documents in them.

2) Going Paperless
I’m going to have to work with less paper. It’s not entirely possible, but I’d probably need to cut down on paper as much as I can. I need to streamline my processes to make work easier for me. For instance, we issue out survey forms in order to obtain some leads. As such these forms can be discarded while the information and details collated into a single page.

I felt so much better after de-cluttering my space at the office. I believe that when you tidy up your work space, creativity starts to fill in the void. This will help to increase sales and productivity of your work. When was the last time you de-clutter your work space?
