What to do if you now live in another UE state and want to claim unemployment benefit for the time you worked in the UK before.

To prove that you have been working in the UK and paying social contributions you will need a form called E-301. You will need this certificate if you want to apply for unemployment benefit in any other other of the EU countries where you are living. Some countries might ask you to work at least one day in that country in order to get unemployment benefit as it is the case of Spain. Some member states offer you the possibility to get all or a good part of your total employment benefit in a single payment in case you are planning to start a business providing that you have a project. In a case like that having this document is essential. The certificate, E-301 is issued in all the EU though I describe here only what to do if you were working in the United Kingdom.

The form you will need to fill in it’s called CA3916 Any search on the internet will lead you to the right place. You can print it and fill it in easily. You will be asked about dates of you former employments, addresses of your employers and some personal data.

The documents you will have to add to the form are the following:

March payslips of all the time you were working there.

Last payslip of you last employment.

All the P60s that your employer gives you at the end of each tax year. It is called “End of the year certificate” The tax year in the UK starts in April and ends at the end of March, so you should get this paper every year by April.

All the P45s that you get at the end of each employment. It is called “Details of employee leaving work” and your employer by law must give it to you when you leave whatever the reason.

If you were careful and have all this documents well kept in order you won’t have much trouble to apply for your certificate. So now you only need to send all this papers to the Centre for non-residents in Newcastle and wait to get the certificate by mail. You will find the address of this place on top of the CA3916.

So good luck to everybody in your search of a new horizon.
