Know The Rules of The Game

In every game we play we need to know the rules of the game.    Imagine, joining American football and insist in playing with the rules of soccer – you will be slaughtered if you tried.

That is why in business as well, there are rules to be followed.  In any kind of business there are rules and processes that are created from many years of experience.  This rules spells out what works and what doesn’t.  This is the main reason why many new business and companies failed.  Many of these companies are started by outsiders who do not know the rules of the business and pay dearly for it.

A better way is to start as an apprentice in the business but it will take many years to learn.  In some of the businesses, the rules and jealously guarded from outsiders which makes it even more difficult.

Alternatively, you could hire and get a partner who already know the inner workings.  

For some businesses, the rules may also be one sided and unfair.  The question we should ask is do we want to play the game or stay away from the game.  Maybe instead of being a direct player, we can ask, is there another way to get a piece of the pie?
