We’ve had the agricultural age, the industrial age, the information age. We’re beginning the creative, artistic age.

For a while now, the look of business has been changing. five decades ago, people found a job with a company and expected to stay there for many years. And many did. Two decades ago, the winds of change started blowing.

Companies began to downsize and many found themselves without work and started reinventing themselves. They began to hire out as consultants, set up small business at home, and so enjoyed the experience that they never went back to big business again.

Empowering the Individual

Other changes arrived as well. The first world became prosperous in a way never before seen. There was so much abundance about. Everybody had resources that two decades earlier, only big business could do. The internet gave the lowliest individual the same information as the crowing head of any state. Technology provided resources that put power into individuals’ hands.

Cell phones enabled to talk at will to others, cheap and plentiful food and clothing enabled people to have resources over to invest in other things, computers, scanners, ipods, many different software products, and palm pilots permitted all and sundry to produce things that were never possible for the lowly individual before.

Jobs go East

At the same time, manufacturing has moved to the east, and there is a growing trend for information providers (lawyers, accountants, doctors) to be replaced by software programs. So, where are the new jobs came to come from in the future?

Arts take over

If you’re an artist, a writer, a designer, an empathizer, or a person who brings meaning and beauty to others, you’re in luck! That’s the wave of the future. That’s what Daniel H Pink says in his book, ‘A Whole New Mind’. It’s a good book to read.

So, if you’re a boomer about to retire, or a student about to enter college, or maybe, you’re just ready for a change of direction, then the best careers to prepare for, are artistic or spiritual in content.

Graphic Designers, writers, acupuncturists, comedians, actors, artists, poets, ‘and those who encourage others, are all jobs to go for. What a wonderful world we’re about to enter!

Creating your new future

The future is about creating unique things, about making what we have work better. It’s about trying to make it beautiful as well as functional. Above all, it’s about putting meaning back into life.
