Tunnel Vision in Business
In the business world seeing the entire picture is important to making key decisions. Many have tunnel vision.
Tunnel vision is a medical condition where people only see a small amount of what we can see between our two eyes. There can be any number of reasons why the vision can be obscured but when we see, we only see perhaps about ten percent of what we can see. It can obstruct our vision and cause us to stumble.
The principle of tunnel vision is often applied in the world of business. There are many business professionals who only see a certain percentage, looking forward to the end, not realizing some of the potential pratfalls that might come along. They just see that point at the end, a blinking sign of some great end goal at the end of the tunnel but they don’t see the risks.
Not Looking At the Risks Will Bury You
Risks are going to be there in the business world with any path to the end goal. You can really take them and really pay off. Or you can decide to take a far safer and conventional path, even if it is longer to get there. Regardless risks have to be acknowledged and analyzed. You cannot pretend that they are not there and look just straight forward. Each risk needs to be looked at and acknowledged. Not acknowledging them will cause you to trip and fall. Sometimes you will fall hard.
The Conventional Straight Forward Path is Full of Pratfalls
Those with tunnel vision in the business world are rather in danger of playing with a pat and safe hand for too long. They are in danger for the profession that they are to completely pass them by. Trends change and those who try and do the same things that that worked fifteen years ago will find them not working as well or failing a little bit more by each year.
Old habits rather die hard. Those who have tunnel vision and unable to see the changes from either side, but just some goal that have and the path they always take are in danger of being a failure. In the current economic climate, you cannot afford to pay attention to the changes and trends of society. Yet, people really refuse to acknowledge change and their feet are swept from underneath them as them.
The conventional path can be successful but it’s not always the right choice. People are successful by taking risks more often than not. Inventions we take for granted were not possible without a little risk. Those people made millions and they did not make it by having tunnel vision. They knew everything around them, the potential risks, and took the calculated risks.
Tunnel vision can cause your vision to be compromised for you and it can cause the vision of your business to be compromised as well.

One has to renovate constantly, tunnel vision anywhere in fact does not work today.
A great share here Mega!
Just another way of pushing your luck.
One of the tunnel vision issues is a locked-in policy to hire the cheapest help they can get, not the best. Cheap employees, like cheap tools of all kinds, cost too much.
Forecasting— seeing what’s not there, the best move.
I learn new things here. Thanks.
Nice one!
Tunnel vision is a new thing for me. Thanks.
I have learnt such a lot from this post. There is no doubt that a business will not succeed if the wider picture is not taken into consideration.
Good one
I like it.
