Get ahead of the competition and get a job in the downturn with these simple tips.

Given the recent economic problems it is clear to all job seekers out there that to find a job and fend off the competition it is going to take much more than just distributing c.v.’s across the web.  A better method is to put into place a strong plan to search for a job, this should reflect you personality and strengths.  If you’re the sort of person who enjoys speaking to people and cold calling then you should try directly marketing yourself through friends and telephone calls direct to those who may be interested in you.  If on the other hand you’re a bit low on the self confidence and you’d prefer to do things by e-mail then you should plan to use the internet via e-mail and contacting individuals directly through that.

Your search shouldn’t be concentrated down just one ally of possible routes but many for an attack that is sure to yeild decent results.  This should include job boards, news groups, journals, newspapers, business, direct marketing, journals etc basically you should research all areas that jobs are likely to be found and actively use each one in order to make contact.

Compiling a research on the industry that you wish to approach is your next most important step, this should include the names, addresses, titles etc of all those people that are important and compile a contact list.  This will aid you in gathering imformation that isn’t readily availible on the internet.

The next step is to make sure that your campaign against any particular job is targeted thus, that your c.v. is re-written for every position and is modelled as strongly as possible to what you know the job to require.  A web portfolio is also a great web to advertise your work to potential employers and is a great way to showcase your talents.

Make telephone calls a couple of days after you apply to the job and have a speech prepared to impress, and always ask for an interview.

If you are currently out of work then your full time employment should be to find a job, keep detailed notes on the people you have talked to and all contact numbers and maximise your effots as you hone your seeking abilities.  You will get a job in the downturn if you remain efficient and effective.
