Help Wanted: Must Be a Family Relative
A balanced look into an unbalanced employment trend.
What is ethical? What is unethical? Does it really even matter? Children grow up while attending all the grades in school knowing one day they will enter into the work force. The schools instill in the children’s mind that there is a job out there waiting for them and they need an education and be a hard worker. These schools fail to teach the children how to properly enter into the outside world. It can and is rough for people. Sadly, many people discover the truth behind the equal opportunities.
While many people go to college, trade, or technical schools, they are learning professions that they want to make a living at. After the schooling is finished, it is time to find a job. Now the fun begins! What many people fail to notice when getting hired in a company, there are many people that are related. To top that off, there may be a supervisor and his/her relatives working on same shift or same department. It does not take a brain child to know that the family workers are being taken care of. And what about promotions, pay raises, etc? To be considered for those, should it be based on hard work, smart work, and the right person for the right job? It rarely happens.
I can understand why many good hearted and honest people get frustrated when turned down from promotion due to a family member of a person in management. I understand that on both sides of the sphere there are the workers who are supporting their children and that is commendable. But if the employment system was more bipartisan, then the ones who did not work as hard or dedicated would have a change of heart and would up there game. Then the company would benefit from that. Personally, I have seen this many times in the past. I have nothing personal against the relatives of the managers and supervisors. Some of them were exceptional workers and of good stock. But still, I think that we all need to be more fair to one another.
