Many businesses do not operate all year round but only on a seasonal basis. For that reason job seekers may not consider these seasonal part time jobs as viable options for employment. However, there is always a demand, and part time jobs may present a good opportunity for you to make some money by filling a seasonal need, understanding that it may not last more than a few months. Let’s look at some options for seasonal employment.

Seasonal part time jobs have several advantages.  You can work in an area that interests you, you can have fun and get paid for it, you may be able to work an unlimited number of hours, and you can move on to something else in a month or two so you don’t get burned out.  Seasonal employment may also lead to a more permanent position in many cases, and you will be among the first people called back the next season before the company advertises to the general public. The disadvantages are that you may have to work long hours, the pay and benefits may not be that good, and it won’t last forever.

Semi-pro sports offer several jobs during the season.

Sports-
Think about what employment areas fluctuate by season. Sports are the first thing that comes to mind. Minor or major league baseball starts in the Spring. They always have part time jobs for concessionaires, ticket-takers, parking attendants and promotions assistants.  The same goes for other sports in their respective seasons. Parks departments hire golf course attendants, groundskeepers, lifeguards, boat rental assistants, and concessions helpers in the Spring. Ski resorts hire in the Fall.  I once worked a weekend as a security guard for a NASCAR race. I made a couple of hundred dollars and got to meet some of the drivers.

A part time job at a fireworks stand is good money for a short period.

Holidays-
The rotation of holidays means that there are high seasons where help is needed for a short time before each one.  Christmas is the biggest, because that is where stores make the bulk of their annual sales. There is always a need for part time Santa’s and assistants at the local shopping center, and stores always hire part time help a month or two before the holiday season.  Other holidays also offer part-time employment.  In the USA, fireworks stands appear for  a month or two before Independence Day.  This is a good opportunity to make $1,000 or $2,000 dollars in a short period.  Halloween now accounts for billions of dollars in spending. 850 Spirit Halloween stores will appear this year in late August and September, all in need of part time employees.  They will be gone by early November.  Local governments need officials to help at polling places on Election Day. Think about part time holiday employment as a good option for a limited time.

Boardwalk businesses offer lots of Summer jobs.

Seasonal businesses-
Amusement parks and seaside resorts hire in the Spring to support their Summer seasons.  School systems hire substitute teachers in mid-Summer as they get ready to start a new shool year in the Fall.  Resorts may need extra help in late Summer as their student employees all leave to go back to school. Delivery companies like UPS or FedEx surge in the months leading up to Christmas as more shopping is being done online.  They always need people to help in distribution centers.  In theory, you could rotate from one job to another throughout the year, following the demand for part time employees.

Seasonal part time jobs are a great option for anyone who wants flexibility and prefers to work part-time because of other commitments.  Seasonal work is a great option for retirees, students and homemakers.  Think about the seasonal opportunities in your area and give it a try!
