A Good resume is very important for any job you apply. This includes casual job, office job or executive job or even freelance job.

There are different types of resumes/CV available for use. It is up to you to choose the right format as per the job requirements and your skills set. The type of resume developed is also dependant on the country you are located in. In this article we will look at the different formats of CV to be used in the UK.

Skills Set based CV: This CV is particularly used by undergraduate students who have little or no experience in the work place that they are applying for. By little experience we mean less than a year of experience although some employers need at least 2 years to be considered as a professional in that field.

To develop a really good skills set based CV the most important thing to remember is that you are highlighting all the skills that you have developed over the years while in education. If the job is of a technical background then in your CV you may want to show case the courses that have utilized these skills in practical environment.

Chronological CV: This type of CV is best suited for people who have gained a good number of practical and industrial experiences in that particular field.  The basic idea of this type of CV is to list down all the work experiences gained over the years for different types of jobs and employers. Some people call it reverse chronological CV, because the most recent employer you worked for will listed on the top with less recent ones listed one after the other.

 IT based CV.:- This type of CV is to be used for those applying a job within the Information Technology sector and the scientific sectors. The main difference with this type of CV from other CV is that you list down all the technological skills in a separate section within your CV that is related to the job in question.

Academic CV:- This type of CV is primarily used only for people who want to get a job within the research and teaching posts. In this type of CV you list down all the courses and projects undertaken at academic level that are important for the post applied for.

 Mixed CV. This is the most popular type of CV which includes combining all the above types of CV for applying for jobs.
