Just Another Day in Paradise?
Get up, go to work, make less money than you deserve, then what?
Get up and go to work. It sounds like a lot of fun. It would be. I love what I do. What I don’t love is the incessant presumptions of a micro-managing supervisor who believes that I don’t have a clue. Of course I have a clue. I have a great clue when left to my own devices without having to explain my every muscle move.
I am intelligent, can get great grades in college level courses. I can be the top of my class in Information Systems technology competing against men. I was the stuff that dreams were made of. I got my first computer job quickly after I graduated, and have been kept low for a long time.
I shoot myself in the foot by losing enthusiasm but if people would just let me do my job and leave me alone I could get it done a lot faster. If I was not asked upteen gazillion times how things were going, they would more likely be getting done because I would not be interrupted by having to stop and answer their silly questions.
Why do some people presume to be so much smarter than others? Why do they drill you for answers you do not have instead of showing you the answer? Why do they believe wasting their time and mine by repeating themselves is productive and constructive?
I propose that management be kicked out and the grunts take over their own jobs. If they don’t do it they don’t get called. If they do their job they can move up to be in charge of themselves in a more advanced capacity.
To believe that life is all about sacrificing for a job, for a career, for another person seems a bit archaic. Jobs are meant to be enjoyed. Work should be something I want to wake up and do every day. I don’t think I am willing to work for anyone else anymore. It’s time to get off my short pony and get myself a nice steed to ride on, and go forward to benefit my own life, and not that of someone making twice the money I make.
Who wants to go out on a limb and hire me, a pretty good IT professional? I can clean your computer, I can hook up your network and I can make your life a little easier. Are you game? I won’t charge so much in the beginning. I don’t want to kill anyone in their hours of economic crisis, but I also want to pay my bills.
You know what I am talking about!
