Resume Choices in The Spa Industry
The average spa manager will spend about 30 seconds scanning your resume. Use these resume writing techniques to make yourself stand out.
Tips for spa industry resumes that will get you noticed in 30 seconds or less:
- Use an OVERVIEW and a SKILL SUMMARY at the beginning of your resume-not objective, not work history, not education
- Keep your overview active, present tense, and 2-3 sentences whenever possible. It is simply an introduction
- YOU MUST INCLUDE A SKILL SUMMARY IN BULLET FORMAT. THE AVERAGE READER WILL MAKE THE DECISION TO GIVE YOU AN INTERVIEW BASED ON THE OVERVIEW AND SKILL SUMMARY-MAKE THEM COUNT!
- The resume should be on white paper in Arial font 12 or 14 point- this makes it easy to read, scan, and fax. If you annoy them, they will just set you aside.
- Anyone looking at your resume should be able to understand how you can benefit them in 30-60 seconds
- Keep the resume to one page unless you have two pages of related work experience (relative to the current position you are seeking)
Make certain your resume is “email friendly” by creating it in MS-WORD format. The average home user’s PC includes only MS-Works so you will need to click:
- save as file name: last name, first name, resume
- save as type: Word Document
Most spa training schools, including Anton Aesthetics Academy in South Florida, have career development resources available for all graduates. Contact your school for sample resumes that you can use to make the process easier. Include the following sections (in this order) on your resume:
- Header–name, address, email, phone
- Overview–Active, brief, and appealing statement about yourself as a spa professional
- Expertise–bullet list of your spa skills with most preferable and strongest listed first
- Work Experience–most recent first, if you are a recent graduate of a school with hands-on training in a professional environment be sure to list that first as work experience. Don’t go back more than 7-10 years unless the experience is spa related. Include a job description that can relate to a spa for every description such as “problem solving, inventory and customer relations.”
- Certification-Education–list most recent and most applicable first, include health related certifications such as CPR and certificates in speciality areas such as make-up or microdermabrasion

Spa is a very important to get a smooth and shiny skin.
