Self Esteem Exercises for the Small Business Owner
Developing self esteem is an essential part of starting a new business.
When faced with starting a new business ,or a new project for that matter, there is a tendency to compare yourself to other established businesses as a gauge to where you find yourself. This can be good in that you may be encouraged by seeing a future vision of where you will be or in which direction you will follow. However, this can, often than not, discourage you by making you feel that there is a huge gap between you and the successful and that your rewards will be many years away.
To develop that business mind you need to start feeling right now that your business is successful. Not that it will be in a few years time, but that what you do and what you are right now is abundant, prosperous and successful. Now,this does not mean that you go out and buy that Rolex or Mercedes. What this means is that you act and behave right now with that sense of success that you know your business will bring you.
A lot of this has to do with how you define success. Hopefully it is not just money, cars and jewellery, but less tangible prosperity such as self worth, and self belief. Before I started my own business I was earning good money. Better than I am at the moment, yet I never felt that I was a success. I was good at my job and had many colleagues, yet there was something missing; that sense of my own self worth and respect. With my new business those senses poured in and I did feel like a million dollars. The sense of pride and accomplishment that this brought was and is priceless.
When you walk tall and feel proud you send out a message that becomes attractive to those around you. You exude self belief and, I guarantee that it is catching. You will naturally start to attract those around you that have the same belief and so, exponentially for all concerned this will grow and become a very powerful tool and motivator.
For me success based on financial figure disappeared a long time ago. Running my own business and designing and planning my own projects means more to me than anything. I know that building large income will take time and dedication, yet since I am doing something that I love I feel that I have all the time in the world. Self respect and self worth have become far more valuable.
This feeling of success also opens your mind to opportunities that you might otherwise miss. If you are constantly looking to where you want to be, even though this can be a valuable visualisation tool, you may very well miss out on opportunities right now that are available to you. Having your business nebulous, yet with focus, also enables you to be open to opportunities that could arise from various sources. Becoming open to anything is a great ideal. You then have an openness of mind that places you in the realm of endless possibility.
Being open now and present does require that you have an attitude of abundance and prosperity. This is so much more than “fake it till you ,make it” for you are not actually faking anything. Rather you are seeing that RIGHT NOW you have a business, RIGHT NOW you are calling the shots and making the decisions and RIGHT NOW you are working for yourself and doing something that you genuinely love.
Adopt this attitude at all times, perhaps re-evaluate your priorities and watch out as you get noticed for being the successful and abundant person that you truly are.
