Looking for a job, Let’s start at the beginning.

Looking for a job?   Looking in the newspaper?   Looking on-line?   Walk-in?

When looking job, how do you define human resource, It does mean that they’re human – people that is.  What does the word “resource” mean?   Resource:  ”a source of supply or support, an available means” according to Miriam Webster Dictionary. What human resource does is find the right candidate for the organization.   A job interview- You’re dressed professional, you’re positive.  Is that enough to be the right candidate?  You’re looking for a clerical position.  Filling out the application, the terminology is changing.   Typing is no longer used, but keyboarding.   Typewriters have been replaced by computers, but it’s still typing. The skills in doing one’s job:  Can you multitask?   Shorthand? Stenography?   Are you looking for an administrative assistant to the VP’s office?  Can you take minutes?  How are you in greeting the public?  An irate customer?  What about a doctor’s office?  Does your resume ”demonstrate” how you can handle patients with “patience” from months to years in experience?  Demonstrate:  “to show a willingness, to illustrate or explain”.

Education plus experience goes hand in hand in getting the job; however your tools must show the type of re”source”ful candidate you can be for the employer.  Age is a factor when HR has several candidates in viewing.  The number of years on a job shows stability in demonstrating one’s skills even to a higher level.  Today modern technology adds a different meaning to the job industry.  For example:   A typist that has typed for many years on a typewriter.   Typists now called ” word processors” process the workflow on a computer, which is still typing, but has been programmed for better service.

A candidate must know the language of being hired.  Like some, word of mouth can be another way in getting one’s foot in the door.  However, you must know all the tools and not to go overboard, keeping in mind to demonstrate the qualifications needed in today’s job market.
