Thinking Outside the Box During the Recession

Everyone by now is feeling the sting of the recession that’s taking place. History tells us that recession goes hand in hand with a rise in unemployment and a rise in crime. There are some careers that will stay somewhat safe throughout all recessions and this is the time to think of a career change. These are jobs that are pretty secure regardless of the economy.

Nursing

It is unfortunate but people will get sick whether we are in a recession or not so nursing will make a fairly stable career. When people are sick they need help so you can enjoy your job, get paid and find yourself in a very rewarding career. The projection for nursing is that it is expected to increase in a big way in the next ten years so why not take a part in the filling of this demand. It will bring security to your life and the pay runs approximately $55,000 a year which is not bad for helping the sick.

Law Enforcement

Just because there is a recession doesn’t mean that crime takes a holiday. To the contrary crime rises and with that will come a demand for more police officers. Layoffs in the police force are very rare so again you will have a somewhat stable job during hard times. Even if you are unlucky enough to get laid off you have a wonderful recommendation to bring to another job in some other kind of law enforcement so you wouldn’t be unemployed very long. Education Field

Teaching is another job that never goes out of style. Recession or not there will always be a need for teachers as long as there are children to teach. Once you have secured a job in this field you are pretty well safe. With everyone going “green” these days this would be a good choice for a career. Government Jobs

Any layoffs in government are minor compared to the private sector which just happens to make a government job a little more appealing during a recession. It doesn’t matter how the recession goes the government must go on which makes your job somewhat stable at least more so than in the private sector. The salary for this type of job is flexable and totally depends on what type of job you end up doing.

When you’re in a recession and you find yourself spending more to get less then you have to look at all your options to keep yourself and your family afloat. History has proven that there will be an end to the recession and soon we will find ourselves climbing to a new high once again. The lessons we learn going through this should be a life lasting lesson. These are but a few of the options you have, don’t give up there are opportunities out there.
