Many of Americans have suddenly found themselves without a job as more and more companies are closing their doors or just trimming down the payroll expenses. Panic and despair are often the first and strongest emotions these jobless people feel and express, for the first time in their lives they are waking up in the morning not sure what they should do. It’s been a really long time since things in the United States have been this tough, all you have to do is watch the news and everyday unemployment and company shut downs are the headliners.  Every neighborhood is filled with vacant houses or for sale signs because people can no longer afford to pay their mortgage or their bills and the president has asked people to live within their means.  If you find yourself among the millions of Americans who have gotten the pink slip, don’t despair.  Instead this can be a great opportunity for you, especially if you really did not like the job you just lost.  This could be the opportunity for you to do something you really love, something you have always wanted to do, but never had the time.  If nothing else, unemployment does give you the time you never had, but always wished you had.  Take this valuable time to think about the things you love to do and which careers can utilize them the best.

Unemployment time can also be a great time to start a business, just make sure that the business you are going to start is something people will need.  More and more people are going back to the basics and they are not spending money on frivolous things or luxury items so you definitely have to keep that in mind when choosing a business to start.  You can do all the ground work like figuring out your business plan, expenses, research and paperwork while on unemployment so that by the time your unemployment runs out you will be ready to open the doors for your new business, maybe you can even get all your ducks in a row fast enough so you don’t have to wait for your unemployment to run out.

Another great thing about unemployment is that you finally have the time to get all the stuff around the house done that you have not have time for.  You now have the time to clean out your closets, paint the house and organize your junk drawers.  A clean and organized environment will help you feel better which will also help you to succeed.
