Summer jobs in South Florida.

I now finished my first year as a freshman in college, and am now on summer vacation.  You think I should be astounded, right? Wrong! In the past all a teenager would do for summer is go to the beach and hang with their friends.  But teenagers are now in a new era that beaches and hanging out with friends are at the bottom of their to do list.  Aside from loving our mom dearly, the top subject on the to do list is making money.

It is extremely common to hear from a teenager that he or she is going to get a summer job.  I don’t know about any other cities, but in South Florida, finding the job the old way (going store to store) is useless.  We teenagers don’t ask for much, right? We just want a job so we could spend it on clothes, put in our savings account, put in our checking account, help our family, or etc.  When I tried finding a job by going store to store, I was unsuccessful.  But in all, I snagged a few tips while I was job searching.  In order to snag a job, follow these guidelines for money making.

Great attitude

It is important to remember that  if people tell you  that there is almost no job findings or that   you’re too late looking for one, do not listen to them! There is always a job somewhere.

First off, you have to acknowledge that your are hiring potential.  Since you are in school, you are halfway there of becoming more qualified! All you need is effective communication, eye contact, proud posture, and a warm attitude.  The employer wants someone who will represent the workplace in a positive way as long as possible.  When asking for a job, or applying, do not get nervous, just stay calm.

As everyone knows, South Florida is a tourist attraction.  Some examples of tourist attractions in South Florida are  zoos, beaches, spas, elegant malls, and so forth.  If you do not mind working in a tourist attracted workplace, then you should look into the jobs that are available.

There is a crazy amount of business inside malls and outlets.  Lucky for south Floridian residents, there are many malls and outlets to choose from. Putting these malls together, there are hundreds of stores to choose from.  But stop! You cannot just enter the mall and ask if they are hiring.  There are downsides if you take this route.  First of all, if you ask, there is always a probability the managers might say no. Keep in mind that there is always a probability that they are hiring or they are not.

You do not want to go store to store asking if they are hiring. You might probably hear rejection.  It is also really time consuming.  Instead, choose a mall in which you would like to work in and search for it on the Internet.  Then navigate to the mall’s main page (if they have one). Navigate to the mall’s page where they list every single store in the mall.  Now get a cell phone or home phone and start calling each store you want to apply to.  Ask if the store is hiring.  If they say yes, make an appointment to come to that store.  You should also consider applying to the food stores in the mall. Remember that you are trying to find a job!

If you want more variety, try a website called Craig’s List.  The website is always posting new job openings in South Florida every single day.  There are a majority of categories to choose from that ranges from customer service to food and beverages.

Every person who wants to be successful has to know how to network.  You could get a job from friends, family, and associates.  It would be a good idea to network because having a major network could be beneficial when it comes to job looking.  Network, network, network!  I cannot stress this enough!

If you like, you could apply to stores on the Internet.   They are a myriad of stores to apply to.  The stores that I know that have on line applications are Burger King, McDonald’s, Checkers, Family Dollar Store, Sam’s Club, K MART, Winn Dixie, Subway (print out), Toys R Us, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Kohl’s. You could also find other stores near you.

Try to find jobs that fits your personality.  If you love working with cars, look for jobs hiring mechanics. If you love the beach and are able to swim, work on the beach.  It is up to you.  With South Florida, there are endless possibilities!  Try to take every effort to follow these guide lines and I will guarantee you 100% you will get a job in South Florida on summer vacation.
