What Drives You at Your Workplace?
Why are you at work today? Are you a requirement at work or an expense at your workplace or worse still, a shadow?
Have you ever wondered why there are people who work all their lives and after they have retired they have nothing to show for it?
Businesses that have been opened for over ten years and yet they seem to be going around Mount Sinai for ages without achievements?
Does it not concern you that the year has gone this far and you still haven’t achieved what you planned atthe beginning of the year? You actually have a record of unused plans and new year resolution.
For any achievement to be made in your life you have to plan intentionally to see the plans get accomplished. You have to be purpose-driven. For starters; you should ask yourself why you go to work? Do you have any specific purpose for being at work today? Did you go to work intentionally to make some positive achievements, to make the company a profitable business? Are you at work because you want to be there or because you have to? Are you forced by circumstances to be there? What drives you to rise up in the morning and prepare yourself to go to work?
If your drive to work is a paycheck after a fortnight or at the end of the month, then you should know that your life is a waste!
Your intention to be at work or at school should be for the good of yourself and the society. Anyone who fails to consider the need for positive contribution to the society is doomed to failure. If you spend your time at your workplace using the office resources for personal gain and not for the good of the company, you surely do not deserve the paycheck. There are employees who are good at complaining about less pay but do nothing to show why they deserve the increase in pay. They spend their time making phone calls to their friends using the company phone, use the internet facilities provided by the company all day just because they were not assigned any work for the day. They are parasites!
Such people are not self motivated. They lack the drive, they have the wrong intention of being at work. They feel that the company owes it to them to make them comfortable. It is not in their best interest to know how the company raises their salary as long as they get the pay. If you feel you deserve to be paid, always look for something to do that will bring a positive contribution to the company. Keep your hands and your head busy doing something productive and not using the company’s resources as if you are owed. The least you can have is to have a symbiotic relationship with your workplace.
You may think it is none of your business to do more, but your lack of positive input today can and will cause your eviction tomorrow. Do not sit at your office digging your own grave, you can do that else where. Be a productive person, seeking to make that company grow. It is your business. You may not be a stakeholder in that company but if the company goes down you get affected like the stakeholder. By the time you leave the company, you should be able to look back and say; “Behold my achievements!”
Today as you read this article, as yourself; “What is my intention of being at work today?” If you cannot answer this question then you have no reason to be working in the first place. What ever the reason is make sure it is going to bring development into that company. Any day at work make sure you have something that you can show at the end of the day as the special contribution towards the desired growth. Have a selfless attitude when you work. It is not all about you!
Note: The writer of this article does not intend to hurt anyone, but hope to get every reader to reconsider his or her purpose for being at any particular place. To have all reconsider their intention for their life this day; all in good faith.
