One of the most common questions in an interview is “Why should we hire you”. If the answer is according to what they need, then you are selected.

Before going for an interview, always prepare the answers for some typical common questions beforehand. This will help you. But do not just memorize the answers and speak there like you are reading the sentences of a book. Be calm, confident and honest.

The most common question you can expect from the interviewer is: “Why should we hire you?”. So, you should know, what the interviewer wants to know from you by asking this question.. The bottom line of the question is: “ What qualities do you have which suits our requirement and will benefit the company?”.

This is similar to the situation when a customer asks the salesman in a shop: “ Why should I buy this specific product amongst thousand others?” . Here the salesman specifies the qualities of the product and relates them to the customer’s need. Moreover, the salesman pin-points a specific quality which makes the product unique amongst thousand others.

In the interview, you are the salesman or rather the product itself and the interviewer is the customer. You have to sell yourself as a product. For that you need to specify your qualities. So, do some homework and enlist some qualities in a piece of paper. Now, try to relate some past experience or incident of your life where that quality can be highlighted.

The next thing you must do is, collect some information about the company and the post for which you are applying for. This is very important. Search in internet or try talking to some of the officials, if you know somebody. Now, find out what kind of technical and other qualities they do need for that post. Specify them in your answer. But remember, don’t make it too lengthy. Speaking for more than 2-3 minutes will make the interviewer to loose interest.

Now, the qualities which you must include in your answer (must have a past experience to highlight it):

  1. Leadership
  2. Team work
  3. Very pessimistic
  4. Dedication to work
  5. Hard working
  6. Good communication skills
  7. Technical skill (expertise in required field)
  8. Never miss deadline
