Development of World Economy
An essay describing a theory on who ran the world economy during the 1500’s.
A world based economy has been one of the reasons we have been able to get so far as a people. Mixing of ideas and people has sparked the great minds of the past. Even the competition of trying to get better of another nation has helped us get farther by a large percent. But one of the most debated was who the leader of the history of the world economy.
Most people think it was the Europeans that lead the economy of world trade. But many believe that it was actually the Asians who held the power. It was China’s demand that lead the Europeans to find ways to fill their demand. Reason for this was that the Asians had many technologies, spices and medicines that Europeans desperately wanted. They were also by far years ahead of everyone else in technology and science. This would have granted them much power over the rest of the world. They would have also had much better products and the manpower to do it.
Many think that Europe was the main and strongest player in starting world economy. I would agree with these people that they were possibly one of the main players but not the strongest. The Europeans didn’t really have much in their natural territory that the people from other continents would have wanted greatly. So they gathered resources from mainly both Africa and America. Slaves from Africa to help in the sugar plantations in America. Plus silver in America for trade with China whom had a great want for it. Europe from this information was the lead supplier in the world economy by collecting its inventory from taking advantage over other continents.
The Americas were mainly isolated for the most part. Around the 1500’s the Spaniards discovered America. They saw it as a way to earn money and brought back gold and slaves. Spain since their first encounter had continued bringing back goods that the rest of the world wouldn’t have at that time. America was basically free land to those of Europe and didn’t have any economical power other than profiting and supplying Europe’s economical power.
In conclusion the two strongest players in the world economy would be Asia and Europe. The rest of the world at this time basically was under the control of Europe. Europe then used the power they got to trade with Asia. Asia however was a more isolated people were more advanced in technology and also in more worldly pleasures such as spices. Both of these people had been the leaders and starters of a world based economy. One without the other wouldn’t have been able to start it.
