Are entrepreneurs born or made? A look back in history reveals that great minds of all time knew the answer to achieving success.

What makes a successful entrepreneur? In this thought-provoking article we look to men such as Einstein, Edison, Darwin, Lincoln, Confucius and Aristotle to reveal the answer.

Are entrepreneur’s born or created? Is it nature or nurture? These are the questions that have been debated for hundreds of years. By looking at the most successful people in history, we may start to understand the future of entrepreneurship.

Research would suggest that entrepreneurs have certain character traits that allow them to be “enterprising” and that through knowledge and experience; they test and apply principals that make them successful and wealthy.

The word entrepreneur is taken from the French verb “entreprendre”, meaning “to undertake”. The “entre” section of the word is taken from the Latin word meaning “between”.

Basically, the definition of the word is someone who seeks to capitalize on new and profitable endeavours or business – usually with considerable initiative and risk!

So can you really master the secrets of the most successful men and women in history and take all the best character traits and knowledge they acquired to become powerfully successful?

I believe that anyone can be an entrepreneur as long as they approach it with the right mindset and understand the power of surrounding themselves with people who are specialists in their chosen field.

By modeling the great geniuses and masters of all time – people like Emerson, Edison, Darwin, Lincoln, Confucius, Plato, Aristotle, Napoleon, Ford and Einstein, to name a few, you can draw great wisdom and understanding of the success mindset.

These men had incredible insight into what it takes to be successful and they all recognised that their dominating thoughts and desires had an effect on the direction of their life and the level of success they could acquire.

They were all men with great faith; they took chances and believed wholeheartedly in their destiny. Entwined within these three important traits was also the ability to have great courage, tolerance and belief.

By mastering these traits for yourself she believes that you can attract to you, through your own thoughts and desires, the ability to achieve anything you want, in your life or business.

The one thing that these great men did learn was to trust their “hunches” or sixth sense. In business, she explains, this is often overlooked or considered weaker skills, but the great minds recognised very quickly that any situation that aroused the emotions and caused their heart to beat faster, generally kicked the sixth sense into action.

As an example, have you ever experienced a near-miss accident while driving? Or perhaps seen someone miraculously “saved from death” by what could only be described as an “invisible force”? If you have, you will have experienced the power of the sixth sense.

The sixth sense is a subject that will be of great interest to anyone who wishes to acquire great wealth. It was something certainly used by Thomas A. Edison who used the power of the sixth sense to guide him in the development of his inventions. He certainly had no human experience or knowledge when working on the moving picture machine or the talking machine.

So what is the sixth sense? On the seas they would have called it “dead reckoning” – the ability to go with your gut instincts and have trust in a positive outcome. Another way of looking at this is the power of the imagination, the hidden subconscious mind.

Research into the six sense and its powerful application shows that rarely do people start using it before the age of forty. It is something that requires practice and is developed slowly over time. The use of meditation, serious quite time and self-reflection assist greatly in sixth sense development.

Fear is another thing that holds the vast majority of people back from achieving greatness in their lives. Fear really is the enemy of your soul, in different guises. It is the fear of poverty which keeps millions of people poor and causese the greatest business depressions of all time. But fear is not real, it only exists in your mind.

The precursers to fear are three enemies – doubt, indecision and fear and the interesting thing about these three “ghosts of the mind”, is that you usually where you find one, the other two will be closely behind, because the seedling of the “weed” fear is indecision.

If you are indecisive about anything in life, it won’t be long before fear sets in. Likewise, any amount of doubt, in turn will lead to indecision.

As babies, we are born with only two fears in life – being dropped and loud noises. As we develop into adulthood, these two basic fears tend to die away, and are replaced with six other fears – poverty, criticism, ill health, loss of love, old age and death.

Historial research also suggests that society seems to also run in cycles of six years around these six fears, with fear of poverty leading to a depression in the economy, then fear of death surrounding wars, then fear of death being prominent when there is a great epidemic.

It also must be remembered though that fear in itself is just a state of mind. If you can control your mind and its direction, then you can master fear. I will give you an example of what I mean by this.

I was curious to know why GPs, Doctors and Consultants were able to treat hundreds of patients annually and yet, seemed to be almost immune to the number of ailments they were treating. The would come into contact with people with highly contagious diseases and wouldn’t become infected. Why?

I researched this, and found to my surprise that the reason that pysicians don’t contract every disease and ailment they come into contact with, is largely to do with the fact they have absolutely no fear of contracting these viruses and illnesses.

So, we go back to the basis again of the power of the mind. The fact that your thought impulses begin immediately to translate into a physical equivalent and can manifest in your body. If you take this to its conclusion, anyone can think themselves immune from disease.

One of the strongest fears to blight the world is that of the fear of poverty. At this moment in time with international economies struggling to stablise themselves for fear of an economic meltdown.

Have you heard of the saying “Gee, we’ll talk ourselves into a recession”? This is so true. All it takes is one financial “authority” to say that we may be heading for an economic slowdown and sure enough, this will lead to interest rates increasing.

If the public mindset follows suit and they believe in the financial situation (and why wouldn’t they because they’ve been told on authority), it won’t be too long before the markets start to crash and this will spiral into a recession and then the worse case scenario of a financial depression.

There is an old joke among economists that states: ‘A recession is when your neighbour loses his job and a depression is when you lose your job!’

One thing to remember about money is that it is just energy. It isn’t a person and it doesn’t have feelings. It is a currency. And when you think that there are trillions of dollars circulating around the world, some in an “invisible” format, rather than paper or metal. You can share in this wealth, it’s ok. You just need to change the way you think about acquiring wealth in your life.

The thing about FEAR is that it paralyses reason. It kills imagination and hits hard at self-reliance and destroys enthusiasm. It can lead to you becoming uncertain about your life and encourages procrastination.

The fear of poverty is, in my opinion, the most destructive of the six basic fears of adulthood. So, how can you recognise if this fear is running your life?

LACK OF AMBITION:

This is mainly expressed as a form of indifference. It’s when you tell others that you accept what life throws at you. You may suffer at the hands of poverty, living from pay cheque to pay cheque. It also manifests in laziness – both mentally and physically, with lack of initiative and enthusiasm. People who live with this symptom of FEAR, lack imagination and self-control.

WORRY:

Are you a worrier? Do you neglect your personal appearance? Do you find fault in others? If you do, you could be suffering with the burden of WORRY. The inability to moderate alcohol consumption or the use of narcotics is very common in this category. Again, self-reliance is low and this person may seem of a very nervous disposition.

INDECISION:

Wow, as I’ve said before, I believe indecision is the one thing that separates the successful from mediocrity. The ability to sit on that fence is a paralysing and uncomfortable position, as you watch the world pass you by. You may also rely heavily on other people doing your thinking for you.

FAILURE:

If you constantly look on the side of negativity, guess what? Yes, that’s right you’ll always get it. People who are over cautious never take chances because they’re too scared of failing. They constantly look for “the right time” to do something and just like our enemy INDECISION, life passes them by – because there is never a “right time”. It’s a bit like looking at a polo mint and just seeing the hole, not the mint.

PROCRASTINATION:

We’ve all done it! Putting off until tomorrow what we should be doing today. Procrastinators use up so much energy because they’re constantly trying to make up excuses of why they haven’t done something/achieved something. The best way to stop procrastination is to ask yourself the question WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW! Then you need to burn those bridges, making your retreat impossible.

Awareness is a wonderful thing. It allows you to pinpoint where you’ve been going wrong and how to improve things in your life and behaviour. Another wonderful tip is to surround yourself with a peer group that matches your expectations.

If you surround yourself with a group of people that have a fear of poverty, then you’ll attract these thoughts and eventually, you will manifest this in your own life. Get yourself a peer group that attracts and enjoy wealth and abundance. Money attracts money as the saying goes!
