I definitely think that globalization is bad for America for many reasons.

First, companies like Walmart are causing American people who work for small American businesses to loose their jobs.  This is because these American-based businesses can not compete with Walmart’s low prices, so they are forced to go out of business.  It is reported that every time a Super Walmart is built, at least three companies around the area go out of business.  Because of all the cheap labor Walmart uses to make their products in countries all over the world, they are able to keep their prices low.  Walmart’s greediness and desire to be the low price leader is causing many people to lose there jobs, so most of these people seek new jobs for substantially lower wages.  I recently watched a show about Walmart where a lady was getting paid almost twelve dollars an hour working for her company.  When a Walmart was built nearby, it caused her company to go out of business, and she lost her job.  She found another job, but was paid the minimum wage, which was almost half of what she was earning before!  She said before she lost her job, she could barely support her and her husband with the money she was making.  Therefore, her husband had to get a job so they could pay their bills.  This lady, along with many other workers, especially the middle class, have been forced to seek jobs for much lower wages because of their companies going out of business.  Walmart is definitely the cause of a lot more poverty, and unfortunately many people are barely able to earn a livable wage in the U.S. because of Walmart.

Also, big companies such as Walmart pay their workers a meager salary and are using unfair tactics to compete with other companies.  Walmart hardly gives their workers enough money to pay their bills.  Since Walmart is doing this, it forces other companies to lower the wages they are paying their workers, so they don’t go out of business.  Walmart is probably the biggest overall company in the United States, and they influence many of the decisions other companies make.  Many of these decisions are causing people to not be able to do the things they used to be able to do because of their lowered salaries.

I think globalization is also causing a larger gap between the rich and the poor.  This is definitely not a good situation, and I believe it threatens our freedom.  In the past, when this has happened in other countries, the rich have taken advantage of the situation and take control of all aspects of the economy and the country in general.  History does repeat itself, and we need to do something about the current situation before it comes to this in the United States.  Globalization  is threatening the democracy in which we live, and we need to be aware of companies like Walmart.  Walmart is causing a greater gap between the rich and poor, and if laws are not passed soon to control the negative aspects of globalization, then we might be living extremely different lives in the future.

Globalization is also causing sweatshops and many unsafe and unfair working conditions in other countries.  This indirectly hurts the U.S. because these large companies such as Walmart are giving the U.S. a bad reputation with many countries.  With technology improving and many nations becoming more powerful, it is necessary for the U.S. to be in good terms with these countries.  If Globalization is not stopped, then I think a lot of unnecessary violence will occur in the future.  Many people have already been killed, because the U.S. has given foreign countries weapons to protect against the people working in the sweatshops from rebelling.  Overall, if globalization is not regulated in some way, I think the future for the whole world will be very bleak.
