I’m Not Paying for That
One more devilish way for the airlines to get more money out of passengers.
We all learned at a tender age that anything that sells extraordinarily cheaply must have a catch somewhere, but our interest is usually aroused nevertheless and some of us fall for it every time.
- When you order a really good meal that seems reasonably priced in a restaurant you later learn that the price only covers the meat, not the vegetables etc.
- When you buy a reasonably priced seat at the theatre you later discover that the seat is behind a pillar.
- When you buy that exquisite looking perfume at a really good price for your wife on her birthday, she soon discovers that it’s all packaging and very little product.
We’ve all been there and now we are all going there again if Ryanair gets its way.

The no frills Irish airline that dominates the European skies can get me from Ireland to Scandinavia, Eastern Europe or the Mediterranean charging me as little as 0 euros if I pick my flight carefully. Then I have to pay for my luggage and for the privilege of checking in as well as the taxes and “fees” whatever they are. If I want I can pay to get on board before anyone else (though what will happen when everyone pays for that privilege?) and of course if I want to eat or drink I have to buy that too, at a price that is as high as the aircraft is flying.
And now they are contemplating another charge dreamed up to bring cheap flights into the same price category as regular flights – THEY WANT TO CHARGE PASSENGERS FOR GOING TO THE TOILET!!!
What if a passenger suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome and needs to go more often than others? Their flight is going to end up costing them a lot more than mine.
No thanks Ryanair. Your aircraft are unreasonably cramped, your passengers feel like they are being herded about like cattle and this final insult is one too many. Time to think again.

Well said Rask. I whole heartedly agree. I won’t pay for them to take the p.
No way will I use Ryan airways. Just another excuse to extract more money for a lesser service. The wallet matters not the customer.
You forgot another huge way in which Ryanair in particular is not in fact as cheap as it seems. Their planes dont leave from your city’s regular airport! It’s usually a tiny airport (nice actually), but way out in buttf_ck nowhere and there’s usually only one, Ryanair owned bus to get out there. The bus ride can, depending on the departure city, cost as much as a flight on a regular airline from that city’s main airport. Example: If you want to leave from Vienna, Austria via Ryanair, the plane actually leaves from a DIFFERENT COUNTRY!! You have to sit on a bus for one and a half hours to Bratislava, Slovakia!! All this said, if you have only a carry-on and a lot of time to spare and dont care about the comfort of your trip, Ryanair can do the trick.
rightly said. I agree with you.
Wow, and I though SouthWest was bad!
Thanks,
Clay
Well if you can take a packed lunch surely you can get on board with a camping loo in your hand luggage? I am sure they wont mind you setting up a makeshift khasi in the gangway.
Great atricle, totally agree with you on this.
I flew Ryanair from London to Dublin a couple of years ago and found the flight to be budget but that was what I expected for 40 pounds. I guess you should expect to pay for anything else because the flight is so cheap. Paying for the outhouse however is ridiculous.

Rask, you’ve made a good point here. You can put up with everything but the pay to pee and poo stuff is crazy. What about people who don’t have coins handy?
Charging you for going to the toilets sounds really too bizarre.
Right on. It is still true “you get what you pay for”
That’s weird! What will they charge next?
I certainly wouldn’t pay to use the loo. (Sl)Easy Jet are an alternative if you are looking for a cut price airline.
Wow, that is crazy!
How in the heck can they charge someone to go to the bathroom when they are trapped in the frikin air. Outragous.
