Less and Less Mobile Phones re Being Sold
For the first time, the amount of mobile phones sold globally decreased in the first quarter of 2009. That’s what Gartner found out. The first quarter is usually the best quarter for the mobile phone industry, but it’s different this time.
The amount of mobile phones sold globally decreased with 9,4 percent in the first quarter of this year, equalling a total amount of 269 million mobile phones sold. Gartner says that this never happened before. Gartner tracks the mobile phone industry very closely.
Though, smart-phones are being sold alot more, due to the phones being popular because of their touch screen and mobile applications and services that come with smart-phones.
In the first quarter of this year, the amount of smart-phones sold globally increased with 12,7 percent compared to the first quarter of 2008, equalling a total amount of 36,4 million smart-phones sold. Out of every mobile phone sold globally in the first quarter of this year, 13,5 percent of them were smart-phones.
The leading company selling the most mobile phones is Nokia, of course. What else did you expect? Nokia sold a total amount of 97,4 million mobile phones. However, the value of their shares decreased with three percent. The second best selling company is Samsung, followed by LG as the third best selling company. On the fourth place we can see Motorola followed by Sony Ericsson as the fifth best selling company.
