Should YouTube be Forced to Contact The Authorities?
After a disturbing video of abuse surfaced during the summer on youtube, many have questioned youtube’s silence in reporting various cases of abuse.
The video you just watched was posted on youtube. In it is a woman, verbally, physically and psychologically abusing her child in front of the camera. I get the impression that she thought the dramatic display of combing her daughter’s thick, kinky-curly hair would garner laughs and possibly make her famous. Yet, instead she became infamous.
After watching this video, I was left with a feeling of disgust and anger, rather than amusement. It was difficult for me to sit in a foreign country and watch a little girl have her soul stripped away by an unloving parent. That said, What could be done? I did the only thing possible for me by emailing it to various news agencies, in the hope that someone could track down whomever posted the video. Unfortunately, I have heard nothing.
It should cause us to step back and ask ourselves, were are we as a society? Are we so desperate for attention and fifteen minutes of fame that we will present our children to the world for ridicule? How could anyone not see the harm inflicted on this child? How could Youtube, allow it to remain?
Just for the record, if there is someone who happens to have a child with this kind of hair, it actually is not a big deal to care for the hair. The key is love, and moisture. I’ll even leave some steps, so that you can have an idea of how to deal with such hair. I never want to witness or hear of anything like this video again.
- Wash the hair with a separate shampoo and conditioner made for dry, damaged hair; sunsilk, herbal essence, pantene prov green. (skip the products made for “black” hair. Most “black” and biracial people have at least three different varying textures, so who could they have tested it on?
- Apply the conditioner and take a wide tooth comb to comb through. This will detangle it and distribute the conditioner more evenly.
- Towel dry the hair by squeezing the excess water from it.
- Apply a dollop of pure virgin olive oil. This will further detangle and seal in the moisture without making it greasy.
- Comb through it one more time and allow it to air dry.
Children need to be loved and nurtured and there is no way that it can be accomplished at the hands of an abuser. The actions of this woman are traumatic and hopefully, youtube, will investigate whether they should reevaluate their terms and services agreement.
