The Google Empire
The days when Google could be considered a simple search engine are long gone. Nowadays, while the Google name is synonymous with internet searches, they offer a lot more. Google continues to grow and is a fierce competitor for even the most household of software firms.
Google now have a huge portfolio of software, mostly available for free, for users to take advantage of. Now you can search the internet, check your email or write and share spreadsheets and documents. You can scour the Earth on Google Earth and get directions to the party you’re going to.
These developments brought a lot of software that we would normally have on our computers and stored it all remotely on the internet. If you run entirely with Google you can make a relatively significant space on your hard drive as you keep applications remote from your computer.
The Google Empire has continued to grow and now we begin to see Google rivalling some of the other household software manufacturers. Google Chrome is their latest addition, offering an internet browser rivalling the likes of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Apple’s Safari.

Google Chrome isn’t just a small fish playing in a big pond either. Google have brought their Chrome software onto the market and introduced a very fast and intuitive browser. It is also more secure than other browsers and resilient to viruses and Trojans’.
For the new kids on the block, Google have continued to introduce software that is appealing to users and is creating quite a stir in the marketplace. Google Chrome is already so popular that Sony has announced their Vaio will come with the Chrome internet browser installed as default.
Now Google have announced the ChromeOS. This new operating system is targeted towards netbooks where a bulky operating system like Windows or MacOS can be unwieldy. Little is confirmed about ChromeOS at this stage because it is still in development. If Google are able to produce an operating system to the standard of their other software they will be a serious challenger in the operating system marketplace.
As Google grow, they continue to shake up the software marketplace with good ideas and inspiration. Household names in software need to pull their socks up and make strides in improving their software if they are going to prevent Google getting a hold on the core of their businesses.
