How Wal-Mart lacks respect for its employees.

Wal-Mart, a department store we all know for there low prices and there friendly service. But is Wal-Mart really that friendly? Is there more going on behind the scenes at Wal-Mart? Wal-Mart has faced many lawsuits and issues that includes its workforce. These issues involve illegal immigrants, employees being force to work, and inadequate health care.

Illegal immigrants

Wal-Mart, accused multiple times of knowingly allowing illegal immigrants to work at there stores. Federal investigators say Wal-Mart senior manager knew that contractors were using illegal immigrants because they had been helping the federal government with an investigation, for the previous three years. Oct. 23, 2003, federal agents raided 61 Wal-Mart stores in the U.S.; a strong measure was taken upon Wal-Mart known as “Operation Rollback”. In a result to this around 250 janitors were arrested.

Worker’s forced to work overtime

The Wal-Mart we all know and love has been accused multiple time by there workers, that they were forced to work off the clock and they deny any overtime pay. The workers also deny any lunch breaks to rest. In year 2006, Oct. 16, around 250 workers took there morning shift to protest out side of Wal-Mart. The workers all walked out in front and protest against the new store policies and gathered outside the store, shouting “We want justice”!

Health insurance

Wal-Mart, reported on October 2005, that there health insurance covered only 44% of there employees. On September 2002, in George many children of Wal-Mart’s employees were surveyed, and turn out that one out four kids were enrolled in PechCare for Kids. In year 2005, October 26, a Wal-Mart sent a memo to the company’s Board of Directors advising them to trim over $1 billion in health care expenses. The memo also suggested giving sedentary Wal-Mart staffers, such as cashiers, and cart gatherers.

 

Conclusion

Wal-Mart, a department store we all know for there low prices and there friendly service. But over the years they have deled with many lawsuits from there employees and more. From 2002 when surveys were taken and most of Wal-Mart’s employees kids where not covered health wise, to 2003 with 250 janitors being arrested. Wal-Mart, friendly service and low prices, or, a company that lacks respect toward there employees.
