Wal-Mart and other discount retailers are experiencing an increase in traffic due to the economic recession. This has enabled them to increase the cost of many of their products.

Certain industries and business have seen a increase in demand and revenue in recent months due to the current economic recession.   Without exception is Wal-mart.  The discount retailer giant has seen its profits soar even higher in the current economic climate.

This has cause a change in certain aspects of the Wal-mart stores.  One way is higher prices.  Certain items have increased in price by 20% or more, like clothing.  The rationale behind this might be that people who are migrating from higher priced stores to the bargain basement and are willing to pay more than long time Wal-mart shoppers.  Another reason might be that Wal-mart is selling more mainstream brands that it used to avoid.  This  is a change from the old mainstream Wal-mart shoppers who wouldn’t spend more money on a pair of jeans or a shirt, when a cheaper one is right next to it.

Still, many don’t believe there quality of products has improved much despite the rise is costs.  For example, Charles Philip, a resident of Chicago, Illinois recently bought a sweater and a nice pair of pants at Wal-mart.  The sweater was marked down, which he says should have tipped him off right there, but he bought it anyways.  He wore it once washed it and now he claims there are already holes in the sweater.

However, he claims that the pants have held up quite well considering the use, so he admits not everything at the store is flawed.
