What Lies in Marvel’s Future?
My view on the recent Disney buyout of Marvel.
Marvel has created some of the greatest heroes. The X-Men, Spiderman, and Iron Man are some of the creations of Marvel, but with the recent purchase of Marvel by Disney, what lies in the future of these heroes? Will we soon see a cheesy, preschooler version of them, or will Disney just leave them as is, and reap the profits?
Disney may be known for being child friendly, but they are not stupid. They know that most of the appeal of Marvel heroes is in them performing heroic, and dangerous, acts. A child would much rather watch Iron Man bust through a bad guy’s fortress, taking out a few guards, then defeat the villian than watch Wolverine help an old lady get a cat out of a tree. It’s just simple logic.
Most likely Disney won’t touch them, perhaps other than using them in some of it’s other works. The Kingdom Hearts video game series, for example, is a cross over of Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters. With Disney owning Marvel, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Sora fighting along side the Incredible Hulk in some future installment.
The downside to this, though, is that we will most likely continue to see a slew of super hero movies, which might not be that bad if Disney plays its cards right. I wouldn’t mind seeing another attempt at a Daredevil movie.
No matter what Disney does with Marvel, it will never die. As long as there are fans who aren’t afraid to voice their opinion, Marvel will continue to live.
