A Mobile Scheme to Reduce Electricity Consumption

We all are worried about the risk of facing energy crisis in next few decades, due to the depletion of fossil fuels. Currently a lot of research is going on to look for alternate sources and to enhance the efficiency of utilization of existing sources.

But, all these efforts would be useless without the help of the common public. For this, a lot of awareness programmes are being carried out world wide. Along with this lots of incentives and taxes are being levied to control energy crisis.

Although, all the above measures to get help from the people look good on paper, they are not much effective in reality. This is because people still believe that they won’t have to face much problem during their lifetime. Even, if the government tries to curb the discriminate use of such things. People won’t stop much as they then use it as a status symbol and don’t minding wasting their money, thinking that they are rich enough to tackle the cost factors.

This careless attitude of rich people is creating the real problem. As they themselves not only waste resources but also make others to follow their path. Hence, they are making a vicious cycle.

To prevent all this I have got a very good idea.

Before I tell you my idea, I would like to tell you something else.

We all use mobile. The payment made is of two types:

1. Prepaid
2. Postpaid

In prepaid we pay money in advance for our calls usage and in postpaid we money after we have made calls.

It has been generally found that people tend to spend more and have heftier bills when they are go for postpaid scheme even though the charges in the postpaid scheme are lesser than the prepaid scheme.

Why it is that way?

I think there is two most important factors which make the people spend miserly in case of prepaid as compared to postpaid:

1. The people are lazy enough to go for repeated recharging in a month so if they have some money left and hardly few days left for validity to get over then they use thriftily. Which is not the case in postpaid, since there is no upper limit in case of postpaid scheme.
2. Secondly, people are more conscious to the decreasing balance rather than to the increasing cost. I think it is just a mental setup of us than anything else.

Now, if can apply a similar concept in our electricity bill then we will be able to reduce the electricity consumption drastically.

I think the plan should go like this:

We should be given prepaid options in which we will get the supply of electricity depending on the amount we pay. Now, if this concept is applied then the above factors which play an important role in making people spend less in prepaid mobile connections will also come into play here also. This will reduce the consumption of electricity and hence will slow the pace of the arrival of the ultimate energy crisis, giving us more time and chance to escape such crisis before it really happens.
