10 Ways to ensure great customer service – This article is geared towards restaurant managers, but can apply to anyone.

  1. Treat your staff the way you want them to treat the customer.
  2. Never bring your personal life to work.  Come in with an open mind and a clear head.
  3. Treat everyone in the restaurant as if they were in your own home.
  4. Know that you are always on stage.  Everyone sees everything you do.
  5. Perception is reality.  You are judged by what people see you do…not what they don’t.
  6. Share information about the financial state of your restaurant with you staff.  Make it competitive…healthy competitive.
  7. Everyone should have a specific job description…however…everyone should be willing and able to do what it takes to be successful. 
  8. Take ownership in the restaurant.  A staff member should never walk over a napkin on the floor…or enter the back of house without full hands…or leave food in the window that needs to be run.
  9. It’s not about you.  Leave your pride at the door…unless it’s the kind that makes you work harder to be the best.
  10. Details are were it all begins.  If your tables aren’t straight, if your soda station isn’t neat, if the windows are clean…you will not be successful.  If your staff is focusing on the details, they won’t miss the customer.
