Put your new hires at ease! Learn how to help them build confidence.

Are you an employer or job supervisor who does not have much patience for mistakes from employees or does not possess strong people skills? The employees you have recently hired should be seen as an investment. You need them to thrive to ensure your organization’s success. Likewise, they need your support to succeed; therefore, it is essential for you to develop your employee relations skills and do simple things that will help make your employees believe in themselves. You will learn how to build confidence in your new and first-time employees.

The first thing you can do to build confidence in your new hires is to provide them great training sessions. By fully training your new workers, you will demonstrate patience as well as a concern for your new hires’ success. Additionally, an employee who is well trained is very likely to believe he or she will be able to do everything competently.

Another thing you can do to develop confidence is to frequently give new employees briefings. This is a terrific opportunity to answer any questions the new hires might have and to present them strong ideas pertaining to their success. Employees who are well informed are more likely to be confident.

Displaying forgiveness is a must. Be willing to overlook simple mistakes and gently tell your new hires how they can improve.

Provide reinforcement. When you communicate with new employees, focus a lot more on what they are doing right rather than what they are doing wrong. Assure them you are there to provide guidance. Offer to help them improve on anything they have not mastered.

Provide heaps of praise and encouragement. Congratulate new workers every time they do something right. When they slip up or get discouraged about something, tell them, “You will get the hang of it. Stick to what you are doing until you master it. It took me several months to get the hang of every detail and task your position involves. Within a month of getting everything right, I was promoted to the management team.”

Acknowledge and reward new employees for their excellence. Give them stars or post their names on a list that highlights the best employees. Give them small gifts such as treats or pencils that have fancy designs. If it is too early to give them a raise, give them a bonus.

If a particular new or first-time employee is excelling, show her a performance review that lets her know she is meeting or exceeding all expectations. To avoid scaring a new employee, it is a good idea to not show him his review if he is doing poorly.

Adhere to what you have learned to build confidence in new employees!
