Every workplace has at least one drama queen or king. This is the person who goes out of their way to make up and spread gossip weather its true or not. These people should be avoided and we should not give them ammunition to continue their gossip trail. We all have problems outside of work but, why do some people feel the need to bring these problems to work. Then there are the ones who feel if they aren’t happy no one will be so, they make others miserable by gossip.

First, rule for cutting down drama in the workplace, separate your home life from the job. Do not go into work and discuss your marital problems, dating experiences, or what your child did at school the day before. Reason being, a gossiper will in fact spread around your intimate details to the entire office or building. They may even add their own twist just so they have something exciting and interesting to talk about. This makes them feel important because, they are getting attention based on someone else’s wild encounter. So, be careful of the personal stories you tell at work, they will come back to haunt you.

Second, rule in the slash on office gossip. Do not ever carry on an affair or relationship with a coworker. This never turns out good. It may start good, you have the secret meetings, the late night encounters, it will seem exciting, for a while. In reality, what happens in this situation is once one of you gets what you want from the affair then its over. And, all that’s left is to have those awkward encounters at the office water cooler. If this office affair ends badly, watch out, you are going to get some whispering people, some laughing at your expense. Office romance is the number one gossip topic in today’s workplace. Let’s cut down on that. Office romance could eventually end your employment.

Third rule to make sure you are not a victim of office gossip, Never go out for a night on the town with coworkers. Now, sure you can have an occasional drink to wind down your day, but, when its time to hit the night life do it with a friend. Reason, when you intend to cut loose and have a good time you tend to say and do things you wouldn’t do normally. Now if you get plastered and go home with the bartender, chances are it will be all over the office by 6 am. Monday morning. But if you do this in the presents of a friend, they will probably call you on Sunday for details. There is a major difference between, coworkers and friends. Just remember a night on the town should not be Monday’s headline at the office danish tray.

These are just three suggestions for cutting down on office gossip. No one likes to be the one that give their coworkers their Monday morning laughs. Look for the rules and reasons for making your job a job and your home life just that your own personal life. Don’t let the two lives intertwine this is a recipe for disaster.
