Work-life balance article.

The standard 9 to 5 work day seems to be a thing of the past, what with laptops, IPhones, texting and more. Then add working from home or running your own business to the mix, and it can be even harder to switch off from work. But if you don’t create some healthy boundaries around work and time out from work, you will find it much harder to unwind and enjoy your life and all if has to offer.

Out of Sight Out of Mind

So how do you switch off from technology when it is available 24/7? It’s simple, turn OFF your technology at various intervals each day. Better still, place it out of sight altogether. It can be tempting to check email and phone messages every time you look at your computer or phone, but if you can’t see it, you won’t think about it as much.

I have a draw in my kitchen for my laptop and my work in-tray. At the end of the working day (I work from home), I place my laptop in my designated draw as well as my notebook and any to-do list items. I don’t look at my computer again until the following day or when my next scheduled work time slot is.

I then switch in to mummy mode and can totally be present to my kids and husband and really relish and enjoy family time.

Sometimes we think we will miss out on opportunities if we aren’t available 24/7 but the real opportunity you are missing is life itself. Totally indulding in all areas of your life; work, family, partner, creativity, rejuvenation, chill out time, exercise, meal times, vacations and more.

Get More Done by Creating Healthy Time Boundaries

You can actually get more done in all areas of your life if you create healthy time boundaries around technology, work, family and lifestyle. Get really clear about how and when and who you want to spend your time with each day, week, month and year.
