Time Management shows high ROI (Return on Investment).

Planning out a day of work or segment of the day increases efficiency immensely.  For an average workday of 8 hours most employees only perform effectively for 3.  This is a general fact about ‘most’ employees.  Of course there are some which perform higher and others which perform even less.  Much of the day is spent looking around,  trying to organize materials, or ‘busy work’.  Many times the vision of time sets a mentality of not enough time.

For example:  Let’s say there is a large report due at the end of the day.  Yet the first break is in an hour and lunch is only 3 hours away.  After lunch it is a straight shot until the end of the working day, where the deadline is for the report.  Most will use a vehicle of procrastination and not start it until after lunch.  This creates a waste of 3 hours completing busy work because the report is still your focus for the day.

Proper planning the day before would have set time oriented goals of completion.  Segmenting tasks is a successful way to complete tasks effectively and timely.

An example of a plan would be as followed:

  • 9-930: Return Emails and plan out day.
  • 930-10 complete task 1
  • 10-1015 Coffee Break
  • 1015-12 Task 2
  • 12-1 Lunch
  • 1-2 task 3
  • 2-5 Largest task 4

By planning a day all time is utilized and put to work.  Without planning performance is poor, though if planned and held accountable for time management both the employee and the business with benefit.
