Top Ten Management on Controlling: An Overview of The Function of Management That Ties It All Together

Introduction
Based on the findings of Henri Fayol, control has become one of the most helpful concepts a manager should learn. While control may not be an easy term to swallow, it actually helps employees reach their potential with knowledge of previous performance. These same measurements help mangers to compare and take action when a problem is needed to be corrected. Like many other concepts, there are issue lurking, but manager’s today are finding new innovative ways to cross these barriers. The overall process of control pushes companies to reach the standard they’ve set for themselves.
The Idea in a Nutshell

Henri Fayol, a French businessman, first declared the four basic functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Therefore, he is considered the founder of the controlling theory. The concept of control is simply to monitor, measure, and correct the performance of work. What distinguished control from the other three functions, is that it allows the manager to evaluate the performance against the standard. Controlling is the element used to see if actual goals are being met; it is a crucial role that must be obtained.
The Top Ten Things You Need to Know About Controlling

1. Controlling is a very importance process that must be completed as one of the four functions of management. It gives assurance that goals are being met in areas of planning, employee empowerment, and securing the workplace.
2. Once the planning, organizing, and leading have been achieved, controlling evaluates whether goals have been met through measurement which allows the manager to see if a plan was achieved. Employees who are the key link in work performance are then given feedback on these matters for future reference. Once this is done effectively, mangers secure the workplace by constructing plans that will decrease work disruption.
3. The action of control cannot be accomplished without the control process. This process is devised into three steps which include: measuring performance, comparing performance, and taking action to reach a standard.
4. In the first step mangers must gain insight on performance through measuring. What is being measured is determined by the problems that are based on criteria. Performance is measured on observation, statistics, and reports.
