Ability to Recognize Ability

In matters of Leadership, the ability to recognize ability is pehaps one of the most outstanding qualities of a leader. A successful leader must be able to identify potential leaders with whom to lead as a team and who should be able to take the mantle of leadership from one generation to another. Africa has generally a crisi of leadership because, those in leadership never care to identify potential leaders in their amidsts. They sort of enjoy the absence or the scarcity of ability endowed leaders.

Character

In the business of identifying ability, the first quality to look for in any kind of a leader is strenth of character. serious character flaws will by all means affect the effectively of a leader. A leader with a character flaw is bound to be liability in the team for a long time because character is not changed overnight and requires a lot of investment to beat it up to shape. Character however, should not be confused with weakness, they are two different aspects in a leader-we all have weaknesses which can be overcome by taining or experience,but characters are inherent and person to holder.Good character in a leader include honesty, integrity, self discipline, teacherability ,dpendability, perseverence, conscientiousness and strong work ethics. the words of a person with the right character match his deeds.

Every leader has to have influence if he/she can move things. If is moving towards point  B and is able to persuade others to go with him even if it is the longest route, then he can be counted as a leader with influence in the team. Thequality of influence of a leader must be measured-does a leader have the power to influence by using his job title or position? Has he developed a relationship which motivates the followers to look up to him? Generally, a good leader should have a mark on the people he leads, by virtue of his good ability to lead and produce results. A leader of Influence knows where he is going and vevery follower has the self belief that they are following a man who is taking them to the right destination

Positive Attitude

This is one of the most valuable assests of a leader can have. In very endeavour, attitude can make or break what one intends to do. A leader whose attitude causes him/her to approach life from a positive dimension is one who can be called a no limit person. He doesnt accept the normal limitations of life as most people do. He is determined to walk to the very edge of his potential befeore he accepts defeat. leaders with ositive attitude are able to go places where others cant, they are not restricted by self-imposed limitations.

People Skills

A leader without interpersonal skills soon finds himself without any followers. Good people skills involve a genuine concern for others,the ability to understand people and making decisions that make positive interactions with others a primary concern. The way a leader behaves to those he leads determines the way they behave towards him.

Capcity to Identify Talents

A leader must have the capcity to identify talents. He should be able to assas those talents when considering a person for equipping or emplyment. God creats people with natural gifts but He also makes them with two ends, one to think with and one to sit on.

Confidence

People will not follow a leader who does not exude confidence in himself. Confidence is the characteristic of positive attitude.The greatest achievers and leaders remain confident regardless of circumstances. Confidence is not merely for show, it empowers. A good leader has the ability to instil in his people the confidence in himself and the confidence in themselves.
