Advertisement effects us in many different ways, some can be good but the fact is that most advertisers will try to manipulate you. This is a short article on my opinion and also a short description about advertisement and the ways the manufacturer “manipulate” us.

I will start by explaining what advertising is, if we take the meaning of advertising from a dictionary it would be: “Advertising, in its simplest form, is the way in which the vendor or manufacturer of a product communicates with consumers via a medium, or many different media.” But, to put it into my own words it would be to communicate between the manufacturer and the consumer. Advertisement has an important role in society. We buy products because we see a product as an Ad and want to buy it. It also plays a large role in economics and politics. I will go more in depth in my next paragraph.

We can advertise through many different means. We can advertise using print media which is basically through news papers, magazines, books and journals. Television is also a popular method of advertising, more commonly known as commercials. Another modern method, that is being use a lot these days, is internet. Lots of different ways of advertising has been invented and if I were to list them all then it would take me quite some while. Every day new ways in which a manufacturer can advertises his products are invented.

Advertisement also is an important factor in economy. Manufacturers spend a lot of money trying to advertise their product. It is also a good way to get business. It can also help improve a slow economy. It costs a lot of money to advertise. Lots of political leaders/rivals like to advertise themselves. Political leaders advertise their party and try to gain the support of the people. It might not always be a right thing to do because from what I see on TV is that most advertisements are lies and all they want is for you to buy their products. I believed that advertisements were supposed to be informative but instead they are filled with lies. It also goes against the basic moral values of many cultures.

Negative aspect of advertising is that it is too manipulative. It uses lots of means to manipulate its audience such as peer pressure or using a famous celebrity in an Ad. The other negative side is that in some Ads, tobacco and alcohol (Some Countries) is advertised. Advertisement tries to justify something that we all know is morally wrong and we all believe that it should try to manipulate a person into buying something they don’t need.

In the end to sum it all up, I think that advertisement does have its positive side in economy but it has more cons then pros. There isn’t anything we can do about advertisement but I would advise you to not be manipulated by these advertisements that manipulate people like you to buy things that they don’t need. I believe that advertisement should be informative and based on the truth. Advertisement is important it really helps business but lets not let it take over our lives and start controlling us.
