When creating a message that contains information whether it’s a letter, e-mail, or presentation a certain amount of research would be needed. For more than one reason, such as, it supports your point or argument and also eases any uncertainty from the viewer’s point of view.

When creating a message that contains information whether it’s a letter, e-mail, or presentation a certain amount of research would be needed.  For more than one reason, such as, it supports your point or argument and also eases any uncertainty from the viewer’s point of view. (The process of Conducting Research, 2008)

First you need to figure out what topic you will be researching. After you choose your topic find out what kind of research you would like to conduct or what point you would like to prove in your message.

Just like the writing process there is also a format for conducting effective research. First off, what kind of research are you doing? There are three categories one being Explorative, which is when you are not aware of the problem for example: Why did we lose 15% of our capture rate this quarter? The next is Descriptive research, meaning you are aware of the issue, where you would ask: Why is this area purchasing our product rather than the other? Lastly, Casual research is conducted when the problem is completely defined, for example: Should we change our packaging? (The process of Conducting Research, 2008)

After you figure out the nature of your research, it’s time to create an outline of facts that support your point or answer your question. Out of all the information you listed, you will see that the information may take you in many different directions and sub-categories.  Use the information that would be useful to proving your point or answering your hypothesis. Finally, you are ready to write type or present your research!
