Sex and Advertising
How many of you out there in the world today have ever wondered whether sex and advertising really work? If a business was to advertise its products, goods or services, without the use of sexual content in one form or another, would it gain the same amount of prospective buyers/consumers as one that did use sex in their advertising campaigns? Considering today’s growing consumer based visual and interactive commercials, this writer would have to say that yes, in most cases sex does sell the products, nearly every time.
How many of you out there in the world today have ever wondered Does Sex and Advertising really work? If a business was to advertise its products, goods or services, “without” the use of “sexual content” in one form or another, would it gain the same amount of prospective buyers/consumers as one that did use sex in their advertising campaigns? Considering today’s growing consumer based visual and interactive commercials, this writer would have to say that yes in most cases, “Sex does sell the products”, nearly every time.
The search engines look at sex in a very favorable way. They latch onto this little three letter word, directing a large stream of online traffic, sometimes even countless thousands that are surfing the web sites in the online communities. This is done almost as if by magic and those that are looking for anything at all to do with sex is drawn straight to your articles. Sex is a commodity and has been for hundreds of years
While this writer was conducting research and gathering the information needed to write this article he was surprised as to what developed and was discovered during the process. Some of the best online businesses to get into are Dating Services, porn and sexually explicit videos. As sad as this may seem to some in the online community it has been proven over and over to be some of the most profitable business ventures out there and of course, the ads used to draw interested consumers to these sites are all laced neatly together with? You got it! “Sex,” because sex is the number one seller on the world Wide Web today.
Sex is used to sell magazines, newspapers, movies, clothing, beauty products, and fashion as well as to many other numerous goods and services, which are to many to mention, all around the world. Television and Radio Commercials are crammed full of sexual content directly and indirectly.
So far this writer has only used images of females in this article. So out of fairness to all it was decided that he should also include some males into the mix as well. Calvin Klein commercials such as the one below also use sexual content or images in advertising products to the hungry flow of consumers both online and through magazine
Another example of using sex to advertise can be found in movie promotions.
These are only a few of the examples this writer decided to incorporate into his article. The point remains though whether it is frowned upon by some or largely accepted by others, sex is alive and well and used in almost every form of advertising. Yes, Sex Sells Products.
I invite any and all comments on this article and also ask that if you like it click the “I Like” button on the site, (when its working) and stumble it if you deem it worthy enough to do so. Hoping this has helped to answer the questions that some have asked of me concerning Sex and Advertising. Right or wrong, Sex is a part of advertising no matter the media is that’s used.

Yeah well, I came across yours and had to write to tell you I enjoyed it very much. I gave it the thumbs up, so more people can come across it and enjoy it also.
I was forced to remove the images from this article because I was unable to properly image source back to them as I do not yet know how to use this feature properly on the triond online editor.
Please accept my applogies for this in advance but I feel this article stands on its own without the use of images anyways.
In spite of the shameless plug at the end of this article, I like it, and I like the comments.
Indeed sex is now a standard practice or feature in advertisement community and this should be properly address before the effects will spill over to the younger generations and at the end we will have a more corrupt society. Here in our place, giant billboards are an ordinary fixtures in main avenues and they sucks, Once I was with my 4 year old nephew going to a mall and a giant billboard of a popular actor showing his well-physique body with only a brief on. and you know what, my nephew uttered in dismay saying YAKS. its a local lingo that means awful.. If only these people knows the children’s reaction.
great article. I will pass it on.
just an explanation: shameless plug is when you court approval of your work. Shoot, we wouldn’t be writing this stuff and putting it out here if we didn’t want approval. It’s actually a kind of quote from Leslie Fish on Virtual Filksing.
Love the article. Unfortunately, as sad as it is, you are very right.
Shame about the pics, but that can be put right!
What remains, however, is an interesting and insightful piece of online journalism.
Yes, sex sells. It is unfortunate that many under age teens are used for this very reason.
great post my friend, yes i agree
That’s true namaste. A well considered article.
Great article, I’ ve enjoyed it so much..It’s sad but very true, i completely agree with you !
Yup, sex sells. That’s for sure unless if no one is interested in sex, which I doubt would happen.
This makes one wonder what the advertisments would look like without the sex………..Well done.
