Summary and Review of Gary Vaynerchuk’s Crush It!
This book summary and review of Crush It!: Why Now Is The Time To Cash In Your Passion was prepared by Ryan Dugas while a Business Administration student in the College of Business at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Executive Summary
The author of Crush It!, Gary Vaynerchuk, is a very self-motivated man. He believes in self success in becoming your own entrepreneur. But by being an entrepreneur Gary would like you to have fun and show great passion in what you end up doing. Another way he refers to his passion is by following your natural DNA. Our DNA tells us who we truly are in life and what we were meant to do.
There are three main rules he brings up early in the book that he tells you to follow: “Love your family, work super hard, and live your passion.” By following these three rules Gary states you will be happy and most likely be successful. You must recognize you passion and put it to a job of some sort. Most likely that job will earn you the money you need, and you will be self satisfied.
Gary talks about leaving his birth place, Soviet Union, to come to the United States at the age of three. His uncle’s part of the family owned a liquor store business in which he was told he could work stocking shelves. Eventually, working for his father, the co-owner/manager of the liquor store, Gary was sixteen bagging ice for $2 an hour.
Gary was fascinated by the Internet, wanting to learn everything he could about it. He wound up going away to college, adopting the nickname, Social Media Guru. Within four years he took his family liquor store and turned it into a twenty million dollar business. With the knowledge he has, he tried to inform the reader about just being simply passionate about everything you want to accomplish.
Self brand and our passions come strictly for our own birth DNA. Following passions through our DNA will direct us in a creative lifestyle. He wants us to research our passions, the things that make us happy, and perform them in a job for with all we have. We should know more about what we are passionate about then anyone else. Once the passion is known, Gary tells us to go into the world and sell it.
He believes a great deal in networking, using Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. Gary tells the reader that they must get their ideas out to people on the technological highway. The Internet is the fastest way to get your words out there.
