Telemarketing Confusion
How to confuse telemarketers who keep calling even after they are put onto the National Do Not Call List.
It is worth either knowing a different language or at least speaking in a different accent. Why? Telemarketers! My room mate gets calls all hours of the day, everyday. So I told her that I would start answering the phone to throw them off. Well, it worked. There are less rings on that phone everyday. And everybody is happy. I know she is. They called day, nigh, weekends, and on Sunday. Yes, on Sunday. I took French for several years, but that is not how I “broke bad” on the telemarketers. I happen to have that most awesome European accent in the world. Well, it is good for an American.
Anyway… I would answer the phone in my best British accent. It must have really messed their minds up. First of all most of these companies have calling centers in other countries. So, they are already confused by the way Americans talk. So calling the United States and getting a person on the phone with a clearly British accent must really throw them off. Sometimes they call and I answer and they must get so confused that they just hang up. It must be scary for them. They are already from a foreign country and don’t know what to expect.
If you have a pesky telemarketer on you for whatever reason. Just bust bad with a crazy accent. And if that doesn’t work, come up with some crazy story that has nothing to do with the call. After a while they will stop calling. Telemarketers anywhere would just get so messed up over crazy calls that they would rather call, let it ring once, then hang it up just to make it look like an attempt. I know about these sort of things. I used to work as a cold caller. At least if they did that, their boss wouldn’t question a thing.
So… if you want to keep from having telemarketers call. Just use a foreign accent and act like you have totall y lost your mind.
