The article describes Product, Price, Promotion, Place ,People, Packaging which are commonly known as the P’s of marketing.

There are the six essential things or P’s that make up marketing. Together they are called marketing mix. This article contains an introduction to each one of them.

  1. Product: This is the physical thing or the service that you are selling e.g. a book as well as nursing could be called products. Product is perhaps the most important “P” of marketing. If your product is not of the right standard and quality, you will not succeed no matter how good the other P’s are.
  2. Price: Price means the amount of money that you accept from people in return for your goods and services. Price is a very important factor in marketing. It should be according to the other P’s. Imagine a very expensive looking perfume having a low price. Will you buy it? Or an orange juice with very common packaging and place of distribution but with a very high price.
  3. Promotion: Promotion means enhancing the sales of your products by either advertising which is called above the line promotion or acts like lucky draws, loyalty cards and discounts etc. which are called below the line promotion. Advertising could be classified into informative and persuasive advertising. Informative advertising contains things like the price, and features while persuasive advertising often tends to show the lifestyle a product represents.
  4. Place: This refers to the outlets where you sell your products. These could range from selling through retailers, wholesalers, agents or direct marketing. Expensive products should be placed in expensive outlets and vice versa. Imagine a Roylce Royce car in a cheap Coupe car outlet.
  5. Packaging: Packaging means the container of your product. This could be plastic in which your cooking powders are kept or tins that contain juice. Packaging should be simple and cost effective. The packaging should aid in the recognition of your product and protecting them.
  6. People: This means customer service as well as the staff of the company. This is basically the way you want the staff to look after the customers before, during or after the sale of your product. It includes giving information about a product or supplying its spare parts once it has been sold.

In conclusion I will say that you can choose different method of marketing according to your own choice depending on the scenario your business is operating in. The important thing, I believe is that there should be coordination between all the Ps and the marketing strategy should be well integrated.
