It may seem that ideas are a dime a dozen, but maybe the secret is in the marketing process after creation. Don’t be afraid to market your idea.

Big Mistakes

Ideas are plentiful, but carrying through from idea to creation can seem like a formidable task.

First you’re afraid your idea will be stolen- right? Well actually, ideas seldom get stolen unless they’ve been proven to be marketable.

Either way thats why we have patent attorneys.

The Next Mistake

“Doing nothing”! Just sit around day after day- day dreaming about how great your product would be , but never taking any action to get it started. And then one day you’re sorely disappointed because you someone else has taken action.

Mistake # 3 Starting at the Top

Trying to start at the top by contacting large corporations. These corporations have their own idea and development department so what do they need you for. While it’s true they will latch onto a product that they deem will be successful but it has to be out there for them to find. Believe  me if you create a big seller that becomes the next fad – they’ll find you!

So find a small manufacturer or do it yourself.

Mistake #4 Not Doing Your Homework

Avoid doing business with any of the “Inventions Wanted” companies that charge outrageous up front fees.Honorable patent attorneys or agents usually only ask for a deposit and the balance is due on completion of the work.

Be aware of flashy literature the unscrupulous ones present to you. Check with your better Business Bureau and your Chamber of Commerce.

It’s true you have to make sure your product is not already out there and thats why we have the United States Patent and Trademark  Office. You can start by visiting their website,www.uspto.com,  there’s an abundance of information in there and it’s the best place to start.T Do your research online. Get catalogs from companies that make the the type of product you have. Check websites, do searches.
