An article to teach you how to turn your passions in life, into a job or lifestyle where you can earn money.

Are you aware that you can earn money purely from the results of your own dedication and hard work in finding your passion in life? In addition to finding your passion, you will soon find that you are also able to achieve many other goals in the process.

Do you feel like you are stuck in a rut in your current job? If so, now would be a good time to sit down and have a good long think about your life and where you are going with it. You are the only one who has the ability to take control of your own destiny, and by applying yourself wholeheartedly to achieving your ambition/goal in life, you will be surprised at what you are actually able to achieve.  However, please be aware that this will not be plain sailing.  You must be prepared to face some difficult challenges on your journey.  You may even make some mistakes along the way – but as long as you remember that a mistake is never serious, unless you repeat it, you can learn a lot about yourself in the process.

There are two paths in life that you can choose.  Live to Earn and Earn to Live.

If you choose the Live to Earn path, you are most likely stuck in a job that you can just about tolerate and you have to go to work just to survive.  You will probably have barely enough money to live, from month to month and in some cases you will probably have more money going out than coming in.

If this sounds familiar, may be it’s time to start thinking about taking the Earn to Live path. If you earn to live, you are in the driving seat.  You are taking part in a job (or even hobby), which you enjoy and are making money in the process!  Life tends to be more adventurous, and fun, as you are pursuing the things that you really like in life.  If you are enjoying the work that you are passionate about, you tend not to feel as though you are just in a job; it’s a lifestyle.  You don’t mind if you have to work longer hours, as it’s something that you are interested in, and therefore it doesn’t feel like a bind.

Beware of the Comfort Zone

The Comfort Zone or “Better the Devil You Know Syndrome” is not a good place to be.  You may have been working for the same company for a long time, even if it’s doing a job that you really wanted to do deep in your heart.  In time, you will have been able to master the skills and knowledge to be able to complete your job to the extent that you are almost working on autopilot. You can get your job done day in day and, and you will get your pay check, but before too long your job will result to monotonous and repetitive actions, almost as though you are on a production line. You may be earning sufficient money to live by, but are you actually living the life that you really wanted to attain? If not, then maybe it is time to get out of your comfort zone.

It can be scary to break away from something you are familiar with, but for you to be able to fulfil the lifestyle that you truly deserve, you will have to take some risks in order to know your capabilities. Do not be afraid to fail; failure is actually part of the learning process.  Just remember to learn from your mistakes and try not to repeat them.

Earning from Your Passion

Whatever your interests in life are, when you truly love what you are doing, you will eventually excel at it.  The reason that you will excel is that people working with you will be attracted by your energy and enthusiasm.  When you are in a job that you dislike, people are subconsciously aware that you are not happy – therefore, you will never excel in that field.

If you are not able to leave your current employment to plunge into your “passion job,” why not work on achieving your ideal job as a side project.  This way you can continue to earn an income from you current employment, but work to build up your dream job, until you are financially able to take up your passion on a full time basis.

In the long run, your passion can actually bring in more cash if you will be able to utilize them well to your advantage. For example, if you enjoy writing or painting in your spare time, if you apply enough dedication to your craft, before you know it you can turn this spare time hobby, into a profitable source of income.

Setting Your Goals

To be able to find your passion and reach your ultimate goals, will require patience, time and thought.  As previously stated, if you are not happy in your current employment, set some time aside where you can sit down quietly and think really hard about what you want from life.  Write down details of what you are trying to achieve.

Step 1

Establish what you want to do with your life.  What is your passion?  How can you make money from your passion?

Step 2

Do you possess the right skills to carry out your passion?  If not, how can you learn these skills?  Can you take a course or gain qualifications?  Can you achieve these skills by volunteering to work somewhere?

Step 3

Goal posts.  There are two ways of setting your goal posts or markers to achieving your dream job/passion.  The first is the normal route – forward planning.  After completing steps 1 & 2, set yourself timescales/goal posts.

For example if you need to enrol on a specific course, you may first have to save up some money.

Your first goal might be to save x amount of money in 6 months, to pay for the course.

The second goal will be to enrol in the course (may be night classes).

Your third goal will be to complete the course.

Your fourth and final goal would be to apply for positions after gaining your new qualification.

The other route, which is more difficult and requires a great deal of imagination, is the less conventional NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) route.  This is where you have to believe that you have already fulfilled your dream job/passion.  Imagine that you are already doing what you really want in life.   Instead of forward planning, because you have “already” achieved your dream – this time you are “looking back” on how you were able to achieve your dream.  Therefore you are looking back at the route you took to get to where you want to be.

Whichever, route you take try to set your goals so that they are challenging, yet achievable.  If you set your goals too difficult, you will give up and never fulfil your dream.  If you set you goals to easily, there is a danger of slipping into the Comfort Zone.

By careful planning, dedication and setting the right goals, you will be able to find your passion in life and make money in the process.
