Can anyone be an Entrepreneur?

I agree to a certain extent that anyone can be an entrepreneur. Firstly what is the exact definition of an entrepreneur? According to the dictionary an entrepreneur, is “a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit”.

Well then doesn’t that mean that anyone can be an entrepreneur? Yes they can because anyone can setup a business if they are willing too, but in the end they might not be a very successful entrepreneur, because no where in the definition of an entrepreneur does it mention anything about them having to be successful.  Whereas if you were asking if anyone can be a ‘successful’ entrepreneur. I would strongly disagree with that for several reasons. Firstly, entrepreneurs posses certain characteristics which not everyone posses. Not saying that every entrepreneur posses the exact same characteristics but between them they share many similar characteristics, which are shown by there actions and many business decisions which they make.

If you were to look at it as the levels of the industry being Primary, Secondary and Tertiary and if everyone were to be entrepreneurs then the business industry would fall apart because everyone would be setting up businesses, but no one would be working in them.

Whereas if you were to look at it as people who come up with ideas of businesses and put them to action, then yes everyone would be capable of becoming and being an entrepreneur. All they need is the idea and desire which will put them on the road to entrepreneurship. So on that point of view I agree that anyone can be an entrepreneur.

Conclusively I think that not everyone can be an entrepreneur because to start of with most people are happy and stable working in a company and getting a steady income and also working a set amount of hours because it is their comfort zone and that is were most people like to be. Whereas entrepreneurs are ready to take on risks and usually don’t have a set amount of hours that they work and usually they commit most of their time to their work and usually have very little time to them selves. Adding to that entrepreneurs are usually very devoted to their work and they enjoy what they do.
Altogether I think that entrepreneurs are not made they are born.
