An Introduction to Mini-Business:
It is interesting to start your own mini-business. A lot of people are skeptical on how to start and some would mock at the idea. However, I believe that it is actually possible if there are ideas, capital and resources.
Here’s an example of how some mini-business ideas have expanded to become big ones for some. They started off doing freelance catering, events, wedding planning, plumbing, painting or cleaning services. And the list goes on. It could be on just about anything. You can make simple and delicious home-made coffee and that could be your idea of a mini-business. It is definitely good to venture out and walk the talk rather than just having bubbles of dreams to start your own mini-business. Realize your dream and start to make it into reality.
Discovering Your Niche and Passion:
I believe that it’s important not to underestimate your own capabilities. Use all resources, tools and options which are available and make it work for you. This is especially cool if you have certain particular skills like say in culinary. Then you would know that having a catering business is good for you. Be specific and take note of your strengths and weaknesses. Stretch yourself to the utmost potential.
The interest to start off a business must be there. No doubt your business might be a mini one, but it’s extremely important to start off with something in which you are passionate about. You can’t start off a business without some capital. Be very careful in taking loans which you cannot fulfill later on. If you must loan from say, a bank or something, keep the amount minimal.
Drums Rolling, Start Your Business and Keep Busy:
At this point of time, say you already have a business going and every resources available for you, especially the products and services.. You will now need customers. In Internet terms, you will need traffic. There is no point having 1001 wonderful things to sell but with no customers. Work on your client base. Start off with word of mouths. Never underestimate the power of this. I sometimes fall for a friend recommending me a particular product or a service rather than believing the information on the newspaper or on-line that I’ve got. Build up your business from scratch. Even if you must do a lot of direct sales to get customers, do it. Get the word out. Print some cheap business cards. Make it look simple, presentable yet professional. You would want yourself or your company to be remembered as an established one, though it’s small. It shows a serious side in doing business and that you are in for a long run. In that way, customers won’t run away. And I would like to add having business cards look sincere too.
Be Patient:
To have success in your mini-business takes time. Don’t jump at the chance to quit your day job just yet. Have some intuition and confidence, but don’t be over in those areas and think you are going to become the next Donald Trump after just a few months of trying out your mini-business. Remember that it might work but it might fail too. Never put all your eggs in 1 basket. Venture out, but having the patience to wait for something big to happen and all along never to give up.
If It’s Good and Sincere, Customers Will Keep Coming and You Will Have Regulars:
I believe customers will keep coming if a product or service is done with the utmost sincerity and honesty. As a seller or a vendor, if one keeps up to their end of the bargain and deliver it well, customers will be very happy and will not hesitate to recommend you to their friends, acquaintances and family too. There will even be repeated times in which they would want to buy your products or engage in your services. Take for instance a mini-business at painting. You promise to paint your customer’s home in 3 days and you did it just right. Providing the right amount of workers and make it work with efficient results. Never promise the mountain to your customers. Be realistic. If a job needs some time to be done, make it clear to them. Don’t be scared that your customers will run away because at the end of the day, those honest and realistic businesses would get the cream of the crop.

Conclusion:
I have a good intuition on this and roughly from the way some mini-businesses are conducted and have become successful, I noticed that they prioritize on customer satisfaction. In other words, their delivery of services are very high end. Being polite is one thing, but providing your end of the bargain is what counts and more often than not, you will be given an A grade overall. If you have a deal for $3,000 but the customer doesn’t come back anymore, compared to a $30 deal but with repeated times the customer comes back, which will you choose? I would choose the latter, definitely. A repeat customer is the best customer ever. They are called the regulars. Once a customer has your business in their favorite list, they can provide the best returns for you. Don’t be surprised. Study your accounting reports.
These are roughly some tips which I’ve noticed and studied so far. It could work for some but not for others. Good luck to those embarking on your own mini-business and remember to put yourself in a customer’s shoe and decide the best for your business. Good luck…
