This can be a great way to make extra money from home. It does require some skills but it really depends on your clients and what their needs are. All you need to get started are a computer, printer and clients. Sounds simple doesn’t it?

Advertising your services can be as easy delivering flyers in the area you want to work in, business people live in your neighbourhood too! It could be designing flyers, brochures, menus and the list goes on. There are many areas of DTP that you could get into. One of my specialities is calendars, they are so much fun and I really enjoy making them. There are many designs that you can use or you could start from scratch and design your own. There are also plenty of ways to advertise them, flyers, and websites and through the groups of people that you know, church, school or notice boards etc. There are many opportunities.
The scope to get a small home business started is really quite simple. The hard part is keeping at it and building up a clientele. There are markets and stalls that you could attend and this is an opportunity to get feedback on your merchandise if you were so inclined. It gives you a chance to see what people are looking for and if there is truly a market for what you are trying to sell.
Hand crafted cards are a big winner in my books; I find that people are looking for something unique and different. When I do have the chance to do a market, I have sold many of my cards because they are usually one offs and different. I have used many diverse styles in this area too. This can be a unique niche market for you to work in and sell your talents too.
I enjoy photography and have used my photography in my cards and calendars. I also write poetry and this is another area of using your talents to make an income from home. I also write letters and design flyers for people that are in their own business but do letter box drops every so often but would not consider printing them at a printers because of the cost. You need to be at a certain stage of business before that becomes a viable plan. You need to sit down and write out your goals and plan for them accordingly.
There are many ways of earning an income from home, planning is critical at any stage and then doing what you need to do! Good luck with your venture.

Great encouragement and informative content, Lucy! I like the move of appropriate articles to the new site!
Again, something many of us have thought about put into easy to understand words. I think this is one of my favourite articles.
Having trouble with the security string…doesn’t seem to like me!! LOL Interesting article. I have a background in advertising and I used desktop publishing to put a small magazine into workplaces. Lots of readers and advertising revenue.
You are so right, Lucy. Great info.
Just had to stroll by to try uncovering some of your secrets for your writing talents, but I guess you keep that a secret. Wow ! You are sure busy. Very good article and well submitted. Thank you.
Great article – your photography is great, and how wonderful that you can use it on your cards. Where abouts in New Zealand do you live?
I am in Auckland at present but have lived all over the place.
