Grants: Why is It So Difficult to Find and Apply for One?

I was recently thinking to myself. We live in America and this is the land of opportunity. I have been dreaming of starting my own business for quite some time and in order to make this dream a reality, I need some help. On occassion, I recieve emails from  various Grant agencies with the promise of finding the right grants I am eligable for and how to apply for them. Because I want to start a business, I decided to click on one of these emails and open up the content. They pretty much state that I need to send them money in order for them to send me information on where to apply. This fee ranges anywhere from $2.99 to $49.99. That is not the issue. If you really read the fine print, they pretty much tell you that this fee is only to get into the site. You have to do all the leg work.

You have to read all kinds of instuctions about the grant searching process. Again, if you don’t know what you are looking for, then how do you search. The terminology they use you is such that you have to have a degree to understand. All this and you still haven’t found your grant or even figured out how to apply for something that you don’t know how to find. You pay a fee to find nothing. The purpose of me paying the site is for them to help me find out what I am eligible for and how to apply for it. Now, I am no dummy, but, I am not Einstein either. The Federal Government states that they give away billions of dollars, so I am assuming that the small business dreamer like myself is pretty much not in these plans.

The American dream is at my fingertips and I can’t have it because when we see the difficulty in obtaining these grants, we are scared away due to the terminology of the grant writers braintrust. All this and I still don’t know what grants I am eligible for. Can someone please help me here? Even when you find out how to apply, you only have a certain amount of time to write out a business plan, write out a financial plan, and hope you get this done in the alloted time frame. I know that in order to pay a professional to write this stuff out for you, you would have to pay an arm and a leg. This leaves us to do all this writing ourselves because God knows we don’t have the money to pay someone to write it for us. It would cost way too much money. All this and you may not even get the grant. I will still try to get this grant. Just say a prayer for me and I will say a prayer for you. We can do this. It’s just why is it so difficult to find and apply for one?
