How my Husband Started His Own Business While Eating His Lunch at McDonalds
One brilliant Idea lead to a thriving business, which now employs many.
A few years back, my husband was working 60 hours a week and we were barely making ends meet. One day, while eating lunch at McDonalds, he needed to use the men’s room. He noticed the restroom could use a better cleaning and right then and there he made a decision to start his own janitorial service. He washed his hands and went to find the owner. He brought him into the men’s room and showed him the problem. The owner agreed that it was indeed an ongoing problem getting his employees to keep the restrooms in tip-top shape.
My husband made him an offer he could not refuse (not while the problem was looming in his face). My husband stopped in each day and cleaned and mopped both restrooms (this was like 8 yrs ago, I believe he asked for 5.00 per day, just to get his foot in the door). Soon he offered to add window washing (29.00 per week) to his duties. Later, the owner told my husband that he had 3 additional McDonald franchises and my husband added those three stores as well as the playland in one of the stores. (The playland along with the tall windows paid well).
My husband created a company name and got business cards. At this point, he was able to approach other restaurants with the credibility of a reccommendation from McDonalds. Soon he had a few Burger Kings, Taco Bells, Big Boys, Coney Islands. Eventually, he phased out the restroom cleaning (that was just to get his foot in the door) and concentrated on cleaning the restaurants and windows.
Today, Sanicare, Incorporated, has grown to the point that it fully employees two of our grown sons, and thirteen others. Our accounts include the Hardrock Cafee, thirteen Bufallo Wild Wing restaurants, among others, and in January we are set to get three more restaurants.
My husband could have just finished his fish sandwich that day at McDonalds and continued to think about how his hard work was putting a fur coat on his bosses wife, insead, he did something about it. The Bible says, “Despise not small beginnings” and his was a very small beginning. But he learned something that day, if you are willing to do what others wont do (clean a restroom) you can one day do what YOU want to do!
Today my husband is simi-retired, he manages a business he will one day pass along to his sons. And it all started while he ate a fish sandwich at McDonalds.
Don’t underestimate what you are capable of doing with your life. One thought, one idea acted upon can change not only your own life, but the lives of many around you.
You were born for greatness….now go act on your own instincts and ideas!

Great story. A lot of great ideas have come to many successful people just like your husband did on the spur of the moment. Thanks for sharing.
very inspiring.. my brother thought of a money making venture while drunk.. nobody would listen to him until I get to finance it for him.. we`re still starting but our future looks very bright. This article made me realize that we will not get `big` during the start.. a lucky thought needs action for it to be successful.. thanks for the reminder

A very inspiring story of finding success with a great idea. I think there’s a valuable moral for all to note – begin at the bottom and keep on going ever upwards!
